A precursor of the private press movement, the Daniel Press was established by C.H.O. Daniel (1836-1919) and operated by him at Oxford, where he eventually became Provost of Worcester College. Unlike many successors, the Daniel Press published first (& usually only) editions of works, i.e. current literature, mostly by persons associated with Oxford and/or known to Daniel. Among Daniel Press authors were various poets little-known or forgotten today, justly or otherwise. After an introduction discussing the Daniel Press, Franklin presents 10 poets, with brief biographical/critical introductions and comments, and texts of various poems, entire or in excerpts: Robert Bridges, Richard Watson Dixon, Mary Coleridge (great-niece of S.T.C.), Ethel Kate Wedgwood [sic], Alice Buckton, Margaret L. Woods, Herbert Warren, Laurence Binyon, F.W. Bourdillon, and Henry Patmore.

Inscribed on the half-title page with an extremely elaborate pen drawing in the style of the period Jullian loved. An inflential book in Jullian's long list of important books. His literary efforts helped usher in the revival of interest in Symbolism and Art Nouveau.
