One of the finest animal biographies published. The 1934 British Panther is a rare book - and in this case this same book has come back to me after more than a decade since I sold it (by the way, handling the same book once every 10 years is a good way to define a rare book). The U. K. Panther first edition was published two weeks before the American edition titled Ki-yu was published in the states. There are two states of the binding in the 1934 Panther - the first in green cloth with yellow titles and the second, this one, bound in red cloth with black titles on the spine - it was issued in 1937 and was in print for a short period of time. White and yellow printed dust jacket. The book is very good (small stain on spine) in a near very good dust jacket with some soiling and a stain. .

The 1934 British Panther is a rare book. You will see dozens of copies of the first American edition of the same book, titled Ki-yu: A Story of Panthers, before you’ll encounter the first U. K. Panther (and Ki-yu is by no means a common book, published in Boston in 1934). Panther was published two weeks before Ki-yu, and it’s by far the most difficult of Haig-Brown’s books to to locate. There’s no record at Harold Ober and Associates (Haig-Brown’s literary agent) in New York showing the number of copies sold. The book is bound in green cloth with yellow titles on the spine and front cover. The dust jacket is printed in black and yellow. The book is clean and very good in a near very good dust jacket with age toning and a chip at the head of the spine panel. . First Edition..

And there is a section titled "Asked and Answered" whereby Dec Hogan responds to questions from steelheaders regarding difficult or tricky angling situations. Flies for every fish that swims in saltwater, freshwater, waters north and south, east and west, lakes and streams, creeks, drainage ditches, ponds, sloughs, and lawn pools; streamers, dries, nymphs, wets, terrestrials, all intended to entice trout, steelhead, salmon, bass, dorado, tarpon, bonefish, cuda, lungfish, big crabs and baby Orcas; there all here, thousands of them. This photo album contains 25 black and white photos measuring 3 1/2 x 4 and 4 x 3 inches respectively, all circa 1900-1910, and each photo is individually mounted on 12 black paper leaves. The album measures 5 1/2 x 7 1/2 inches. Four or five of the photos show anglers with their catches (Sea Bass & Yellowtail Tuna), images of anglers in boats, scenes of the harbour, swimmers, poses at the beach, and boats at anchor. The album is bound in dark grey paper with black title. The photos and album in very good condition. .

This photograph shows Harry Stephen Harkness (July 17, 1880 - January 23, 1919) of New York City on May 11, 1900 at age 20 holding his rod and two large Bluefin tuna which he caught, weighing 91 and 109 pounds respectfully. The photo is matted and measures 8 x 6 inches; 10 x 8 ¾ including the matt. Harry Harkness was a respected race car driver and winner of the first "Race to the Clouds," the Mount Washington Hillclimb Auto Race. Once he raced against Henry Ford. He was also an aviator and wealthy, financing construction of many early airplanes. The photo and matt are in fine condition. .

Trout in the eight pound class were caught in the Feather River as it coursed through Big Meadows. The booklet is bound in its original tan printed wrappers with black titles. In nice condition.
