See and paint nature as never before!
From a perfectly posed butterfly to a delicately tinted leaf to tiny eggs in a bird's nest, realistic natural details enhance a painting's appeal. Now internationally acclaimed artist and teacher, Peggy Harris, shares her secrets.
"This is primarily a book to train your eye rather than your hand...We would not think of attaching arms or legs to the head of an animal or person, or placing the eyes on the feet; yet we frequently place incorrect vein patterns on leaves, randomly attach insect antennae or legs and so on."
With tips, painting demonstrations, fascinating facts and her own beautiful artwork, Peggy teaches you to observe nature accurately and let your knowledge give life and credibility to your painting, no matter what your artistic style.
"As you carefully examine and compare subjects from the natural world, you will inevitably become more skilled in your depiction of them."

Review
Much has been written about Charles Rennie Mackintosh, his life and work. This book attempts to decipher the meaning of the symbols and decoration in Mackintosh's art and that of many of his contemporaries, both in Glasgow and abroad. The book places the work of the Glasgow Four in the philosophical and religious framework which inspired it. Herbert MacNair, the last survivor of the Four, described the group's early water-colours as being essentially dependent on symbolism not a line was drawn without a purpose and rarely was a single motif employed that had not some allegorical meaning. This being so, it is surprising that the work of the Mackintosh group, despite enormous recent interest, remains, in general, unexplored. This book gives new importance to the contribution of Mackintosh's wife to his art. It documents a dramatic story of lifelong loves and enmities. Equal prominence is given to ancient belief and modern… Read More

REVIEW
This beautifully illustrated book sets out to tell the story of a collection of about 30,000 pearls, with no rival anywhere in the world, and that of the rediscovery of these pearls. The pink pearl of the Caribbean is produced by a very beautiful shellfish, the queen conch. The collector is Sue Hendrickson, a professional diver and a sort of female Indiana Jones, who has spent much of her life collecting pearls found by the people who fish this conch, all over the Caribbean. They gather it for its flesh, which is very good to eat, and, on average, one in every 10,000 shells contains a pearl. This collection has been sold to a Swiss dealer in stones and gems, who has successfully begun to make contemporary jewelry incorporating the pink pearls. The book sets out to tell her story, and… Read More
