Part I (of three) of Epochs of Irish History, the others, by the same author, being Early Christian Ireland (published in 1905) and Ireland Under the Northmen (never published although Hull did produce The Northmen in Britain in 1913). The joint publisher of this volume is M.H. Gill of Dublin. Some fraying to foredge of cover, corners and spine ends a little rubbed, a faint stain to front, spine tanned, interior with a crack starting to front hinge but otherwise crisp and clean, the binding is tight. A very good copy.

With loosely inserted slip detailing cast changes. The 32nd Division was a New Army organisation, raised mainly in the north of England. They fought on the Somme in 1916, in the environs of the Ancre in 1917 and back to the Somme in 1918. Rare, particularly in this condition.

O'Brien had obtained a B.A. at Trinity College in 1831 and a year later he published his dissertation on the Round Towers of Ireland which he submitted to the Royal Irish Academy for a prize of a gold medal and purse of £50.
