Neat gift inscription from the author to Sir Israel Gollancz dated Easter 1930. Tipped onto front pastedown is a letter from the author to Gollancz asking of his health and commenting on the enclosed book. Sir Israel Gollancz 1863-1930 a Professor of Ehglish at Kings College London and uncle to publisher Victor Gollancz. The dust wrapper has age toned to spine and edges. The binding and pages are in excellent clean and bright order. A neat book with an interesting provenance.

Drawings throughout text illustrating templates for classroom use of paper folding. Two neat ownership inscriptions on front free end papers:- B. Burgoyne Chapman to his friend Gordon dated Aug 26 1915, Kulong [district in Shanghai], later inscription of "Rattenbury", which is probably that of H B Rattenbury, or a family member. Pages are a little age toned, some light damp staining affecting the edge of a few pages, in good clean order. Benjamin Burgoyne Chapman, (1886-1964) born in Australia, entered the Methodist Wesleyan ministry in 1913 and worked in China from 1913 - 1931. He returned in 1936 after travelling to India and Japan. Harold Burgoyne Rattenbury (1878-1961) published author and Methodist missionary in Burma and China in the 1930/ 40's. A book with an ownership story perhaps more interesting than that written by the author.

From Speed's "The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain" with English text on verso with a description of the county and town listing. Inset town plans of Penbroke [Pembroke] and Saint Davids. Eleven coats of arms, scale and decorative title cartouche. Very small loss to lower blank margins not affecting printed area. An attractive Speed map in very good condition.

With authors inscription on half title page To Sim and Arnold/ from Edward/ (blazing with Cove)/ August 1993. The dedication is to Arnold and Sim Rattenbury to whom he was later to dedicate his last book Mind How You Go, published posthumously in 1997. I also have available Mind How you Go with an inscription to the Rattenburys from Blishen's widow Nancy.

Some small breaks at some folds, not affecting imagery or use of map. Title label is damaged, the map is clean and bright, probably unused. A very interesting record.

Arnold Rattenbury a noteable writer who's parent Harold Burgoyne Rattenbury and Emily (nee Ewins) were missionaries in China up to 1935. In the same hand on page 99 is Edmund Spenser's Sonnet 7 from Amoretti. All other pages are tight, bright and clean. A good book with an interesting provenance.
