Description:
There have been several orchestrations of Bach's famous organ masterwork over the years, including some by notable conductors such as Leopold Stokowski, Eugene Ormandy, Rene Leibowitz, Andrew Davis plus a couple by composers: Ottorino Respighi and the one offered here by the Russian Aleksandr Gedike. The exact date of Gedike's orchestration is unknown but could date from before the Russian revolution of 1917 which would make it one of the earliest orchestral settings. It's a splendid example of Gedike's typically Russian orchestrational style which employs the full compliment of orchestral forces. The study score offered here is a newly engraved edition prepared by Richard W. Sargeant, Jr. The large conductor's score and orchestra parts compatible with this new edition are also available from Serenissima Music.

Description:
Ravel composed the original piano version of this piece in 1899 after resuming his studies at the Paris Conservatory. It was published the next year and became an overnight success. Despite some self-criticism of his youthful work for being "poor in form", Ravel thought well enough of it to prepare an orchestral version in late 1910, which was given its premiere under the baton of Henry Wood at the Manchester Gentlemen's Concerts on 27 February 1911. This newly-engraved critical edition will be appreciated by Ravel fans, students, and conductors everywhere.

Description:
Debussy's sole completed opera was given its premiere at Paris' Opera Comique on April 30, 1902. It was the culmination of an eight-year effort on the composer's part. Though not an immediate sensation like Puccini's "Madame Butterfly" two years later in Milan, the five-act lyric drama, after the identically titled play by Maeterlinck, enjoyed a successful run in the first two decades of the 20th century. Debussy's masterpiece of orchestral color is presented in a new, digitally-enhanced reprint of the full score first issued by E. Fromont, Paris, in 1904 which was corrected and revised in 1907. In contrast so many of the on-demand scores now available, this one comes with all the pages and the images have been thoroughly checked to make sure it is readable, is beautifully printed on off-white stock with a quality cover.

Description:
This is a new, digitally enhanced reissue of the score originally published in 1908 by A. Durand et Fils, Paris. The "Petite Suite" was originally composed by Debussy in 1889 for piano, four-hands. By the time an orchestral version was sought in 1907, the composer was too busy with numerous other commissions to orchestrate his youthful work and entrusted the job to the conductor and composer Henri Büsser. This is the orchestral version most widely performed and recorded today.

Description:
Liszt started working on his first foray into the concerto genre as early as 1830, only completing the work in its present form in 1849. He appeared as soloist in the premiere, given at Weimar on Febrary 17, 1855, with the Staatskappelle under the direction of Hector Berlioz. The concerto has been a staple of the repertoire ever since. Just in time for the Liszt bicentennial, this new score is a digitally-enhanced reprint of the one first issued by Breitkopf und Härtel in 1914 as part of the composer's complete works.

Description:
Composed in 1858, Brahms' first concerto was given its premiere in Hanover's Royal Theater on January 22, 1859 with the 25-year-old composer as piano soloist and the orchestra conducted by Joseph Joachim. The new work got a cold reception in Hanover and a similar reaction was the response to the Leipzig performance five days later with the far more professional Gewandhaus orchestra. Undaunted, the work was received with great applause at the third performance in March, given in Hamburg. The concerto has been a staple of the concert repertoire for piano and orchestra ever since.

The study score offered here is a corrected edition prepared by Clinton Nieweg and Robert Sutherland from the composer's manuscript, the first editions and other authoritative sources. The large conductor's score and orchestral parts are also available from Serenissima Music.

Liszt's second concerto had its beginnings in 1839 or 1840 and was subjected to a number of revisions until 1861. Description:
Composed between April and June 29, 1896 while on holiday in Italy, the Poème was written in response to a request by the violinist Eugène Ysaÿe for a concerto. Initially entitled "Le Chant de l'amour triomphant" - after a romantic novella by the Russian novelist Ivan Turgenev which might have been inspired by events in his own life: the failed engagement of Pauline Viardot's daughter Marianne to the composer Gabriel Fauré and Turgenev's own infatuation with Pauline, which led to his leaving Russia to end up in Paris residing at the Viardot household. Turgenev, Pauline and Marianne Viardot and Fauré were all acquaintances of Chausson, but his ultimate creation was a work without any kind of extra-musical program.

The Poème was given its official premiere with Ysaÿe as soloist on December 27, 1896 at the Nancy Conservatoire, with the orchestra conducted by Guy Ropartz. The present score is a newly engraved critical edition by Clinton F. Nieweg based on the composer's manuscript and the first… Read More

Description:
The Polovtsian Dances from Borodin's Prince Igor consist of two numbers from the opera's second act (Nos.8 and 17). The first Dance is the 'Dance of Polovtsian Maidens' while the remaining of the dances come from the second act finale. Borodin worked sporadically for almost 18 years on Prince Igor but it was left in an incomplete chaotic state upon his death in 1887. The dances here were orchestrated by Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov for an 1879 concert performance and subsequently revised by him after the opera's publication in 1888.
This newly engraved edition by Richard W. Sargeant, Jr. has been meticulously researched from authoritative sources so that Borodin's masterful dances are available for the enjoyment of professionals and amateurs alike. Sargeant's edition is of the concert version for orchestra alone as opposed our other superb edition (for chorus and orchestra) by Clinton F. Nieweg and Nancy M. Bradburd.

Ševcík's complete works cover every area of violin technique, from the elementary level and special exercises on individual technical problems all the way to analytical studies of the standard violin concertos. His Preparatory Trill Studies deal with the placement of the fingers, their pressure on the strings and their action on the fingerboard in elementary positions, proceeding from slow movements to trills.

This edition is essentially based on the original print published at the outset of the 20th century, along with other sources from Ševcík's posthumous papers. The editor, Jaroslav Foltýn, is a professor of violin at Prague Conservatory, as was Ševcík himself.. Text is provided in Czech, German and English.

Description:
Composed in 1892 as he he was working on his Ninth Symphony, Psalm 150 is Bruckner's final sacred work. The composer had set various psalms over the course of his career before finally turning to the very last of the Book of Psalms, No.150. It is one of the most musical of all, invoking a veritable orchestra of percussion, wind, and string instruments to join the people's voices in praise of God with music and dance.
