Description:
Chicago: Shepard & Johnston, 1885. 8vo, 96pp., illustrated throughout, orig. pictorial wrappers, a very nice copy. "In presenting my annual catalogue of stock at Oaklawn for 1885, I have the pleasure of knowing that it possesses attractions never before offered in any stock catalogue. It contains descriptions and pedigrees of four hundred imported animals of the finest breeding and highest physical qualities, all recorded with their pedigrees in the Percheron Stud-Book of France, and also a list of nearly two thousand pure bred animals imported by me since 1872. Of the horses imported this year many were prize winners in France, several of them being of such superior quality that they attracted the attention of the famous artist, Rosa Bonheur, and were sent to her chateau to be sketched as models for a future picture."—Introduction.

Description:
Philadelphia: Published by Kimber and Conrad, William Fry, Printer, 1814. First American edition, 12mo, text slightly browned, 120pp., disbound. This is not Bakewell the sheep-breeder, but the geologist. Bakewell was probably one of the Quakers and wool-staplers of that name in Nottingham. As a schoolboy he amused himself with construction of telescopes, and being amongst wools looked at them under a microscope. He afterwards speculated as to the effects of soil and food upon them and published this work, while living in Wakefield. After writing this book he confined himself to mineralogy and geology.

Description:
Taunton: Printed for the Author, by J. W. Marriott, 1828. First edition, 8vo (215 x 140 mm), [4], viii, 77, [1], 4, 10pp., including two addenda, 'Hydrophobic Syringe' & 'Horse Provender', half-title, one engraved plate 'Hydrophobic Injection', recent morocco-backed patterned paper boards, spine gilt lettered direct. Henry Sully was surgeon to Wiveliscombe Infirmiary and to the Duke of Cumberland. This work records a number of local rabies cases and repeats directions given earlier by Somerset doctors that the effects of rabies can be prevented if the saliva is wiped away and the bite thoroughly washed. Washing the wound with antiseptic is still the first treatment for rabies. The understanding of rabies did not progress until Louis Pasteur published 'Sur la Rage' in 1881. The article on Horse Provender is about Sully's system for feeding horse chaff via a chute from a loft above the stable.

London: Printed for the Author, by M. Vint; and sold by E. Newbery; Shepperson and Reynolds; W. Richardson; and G. Burnett, [N.d., c.1789]. First edition, 8vo (215 x 125 mm), [2], ii, vii, [1], [9]-92pp., title page a little browed, modern boards. The author presents to the public his concoction of Fixible Air, and Artificial Mineral Water, which he calls Aqua Salubris, or Salubrious Water, claiming cures or relief of many common diseases. The solution is made up of a mixture of distilled water, oil of vitriol, powdered marble and air, which is boiled in a glass apparatus. The resulting 'tonic' is made more palatable by mixing it with wines or other fermented liquors, helping in the cure of rheumatism, gout, gall stones, bloody urine, scurvy, hypochondria and other nervous complaints. The final leaf gives addresses where Aqua Salubris is available and supplied, including that of Mrs. Elizabeth Newbery, widow of Francis, publishers, at the corner of St. Paul's Church-yard.
