In all, this is a smart edition of this historical romance by Harrison Ainsworth. Originally published serially, it is set during the Great Plague of London and the Great Fire of London, and follows the life and events of grocer Stephen Bloundel and his daughter Annabel. In 1914, it was the basis for the silent film Old St. Paul's. Description:
Published by Weidenfeld & Nicolson, London; 1962. First English Edition. Translated by Elspeth Harley Schubert. 8vo. 126pp. Condition: Fine/Very Good.
Bound in original red cloth boards with gilt title to the spine. Other than a little darkening to the top edge, the binding is in excellent condition, tight and square and free from damage or marking. Inside, apart from a touch of toning to the edges, the pages are clean and bright.
The book is housed in the original dust jacket, unclipped with the original price of 15s net. There is a little darkening to the spine edges and some general rubbing. There is a little shelf wear, with a few small tears to the edges. That said, however, the jacket remains smart and complements the book well.
In all, this is a smart example of this first edition by Olle Hedberg, translated from the Swedish version published in 1959. It would sit smartly on any shelf.

A very smart example of this novel of suspense. Gripping to the end and endlessly entertaining. It tells the story of Tim Cranmer, who becomes entangled in a dangerous web of international politics, personal loyalties, and betrayal.

Description:
Published by Victor Gollancz Ltd, London; 1975. Uncorrected Proof. 224pp. 8vo. Condition: Good+
Bound in yellow softcover binding. There is some staining to the binding and a little bumping to the edges, but it is otherwise in tact and in good condition. Inside, the pages are clean and bright and free from blemishes or damage, with just a little toning and staining to the page edges.
In all, this is a rare find of the publisher's Uncorrected Book Proof, which preceded the publication of the first edition. These proofs are hard to come by as only a handful would have been produced. Anthony Price combines the machinations of British Intelligence with the legend of King Arthur in an extraordinary thriller that crackles with suspense from start to finish.
