The October Country

Ray Bradbury

  • Edition: 1st Edition
  • Book condition: Very Good
  • Quantity available: 1
New York: Ballantine. New York, Ballantine, 1955. First Edition. First Impression. A very good copy. The white of the jacket generally bright but with a few areas of rubbing, red to spine a little faded and a short closed tear to the top. Some bumping to the spine tips. Boards in decent shape with just a little bumping to the tips. Probably Currey's binding B (dull red cloth), state 2 (logo correct orientation on spine). Could be binding C (red cloth) though as it's hard to distinguish the cloth types. Either way, there's no priority established. This copy is signed by Bradbury to the title page, but also inscribed by Joe Mugnaini "to Charles \ Joe Mugnaini" - see image. Mugnaini's name has been underlined too, given the pen, probably by Bradbury. A nice copy and signed by both. Cover art / illustrations by Joe Mugnaini [5562, Hyraxia Books]. . Very Good. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 1955.

On Stranger Tides

Tim Powers

  • Edition: 1st Edition
  • Book condition: Fine
  • Quantity available: 1
London: Grafton. London, Grafton, 1988. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. A lovely copy. Inscribed by the author thus: "For David \ This novelisation's \ of a Disneyland ride! \ Cheers, \ Tim Powers", upside down as is the author's style. Powers has mentioned a number of times how the Disneyland ride, which spawned the films, was a great influence on the book. Powers wrote the book after Lester Del Rey had rejected 'Anubis Gates' and 'Dinner at Deviant's Palace', but found Del Rey rejecting 'On Stranger Tides' too. Ace then picked the book up, as the feedback Del Rey had given Powers was strong enough to allow Powers to further sculpt the book. The present copy, being the first English edition, came out the following year. Nominated for the World Fantasy Award, and the inspiration for the Monkey Island video game from 1990, and most famously the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film. An important novel in the perhaps under-represented subgenre of fantasy, ... Read more

Once More* with Footnotes

Terry Pratchett

  • Edition: 1st Edition
  • Book condition: Fine
  • Quantity available: 1
Framingham, MA: NESFA Press. Framingham, MA, NESFA Press, 2004. First Edition. First Impression. Hardback. Nope, not signed by Terry Pratchett, but by Omar Rayyan who provides the cover illustration. Rayyan's style is reminiscent of Rackham's with a slightly more humorous twist, perfectly suited to Pratchett. Perhaps best known for his more recent work with the Folio Society, particularly the Lang Fairy Book and Pratchett's Mort. Uncommon signed by Rayyan, and one for the collectors. A fine copy of the first impression. Introduction by Esther Friesner, and a further introduction (apology) by Pratchett. An important work really for Pratchett, gathering together so many minor pieces in one place, including essays, short stories, articles and fan pieces. Cover art by Omar Rayyan [6418, Hyraxia Books]. . Fine. Hardback. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. 2004.
