Ernest Paul "Ernie" Bushmiller, Jr. (23 August 1905 – 15 August 1982) was an American cartoonist, best known for creating the long-running daily comic strip Nancy. Bushmiller's work has been repeatedly addressed by other artists: Andy Warhol made a 1961 painting based on "Nancy"; the artist and poet Joe Brainard made numerous works based on Nancy; and many cartoonists have produced work directly inspired by or commenting on Bushmiller's art. 96 pages. Kitchen Sink Press, 1989. Soft Cover. F - Fine. Ernie Bushmiller. Nancy's "boyfriend" Sluggo was a character of some mystery. Cartoonist Ernie Bushmiller (23 August 1905 – 15 August 1982) depicted Sluggo, a young boy, as living alone in a ramshackle house with no adult supervision. He wore clothes with patches. He had no visible means of support. His "house" was furnished with only the bare necessities. Holes in his walls revealed plaster and lathe-work. All of which begged a question which became the title of the book: How Sluggo Survives, the second in a series of "theme" collections based on Nancy & Sluggo newspaper comic strips. To make matters worse, Sluggo was a lazy boy, summarized by his sleeping pose ("sawing wood") on his button. Today somebody would call social services, but for decades no one in the neighbourhood intervened. The mystery persists. 90 pages. Black & White illustrations. 9" x 11" (220mm x 280mm). (0.3)

A scarce signed limited edition lithograph, originally drawn in 1992 by Serpieri. The lithograph picks out the subtle beauty of Serpieri's lines and marks perfectly. Released in 2009 as a limited edition lithograph. Serpieri has gained world renown for his powerful depictions of female characters whom are often denuded or in various states of undress. He is possibly best known for his work on the Druuna erotic science fiction series which was also made into a computer game.
