Contemporary full and richly patinated vellum, slightly rubbed with missing triangle of vellum on the upper front hinge. Corners slightly worn. Recipes for stewed tongue, prawn curry, thornback, sauce Robart, buttered orange, many sophisticated now obsolete recipes; many instructions on dealing with servants. The Dictionary of National Biography: "the earliest manual of household management with any pretensions to completeness." The 1st edition of 1806 had only 290 pages. It was sent along with this particular copy of the book, addressed to Lady Dobell, on behalf of Mildred Wasson. Wasson wrote 6 popular romantic novels from 1926-40. Lady Elizabeth Dobell (1878-1972) Elizabeth Anne Campbell (née Meyrick Bankes) married Major Charles Dobell in 1908, and travelled widely with him during his distinguished military career. They were avid collectors of jewellery, oriental rugs and stamps. Evelyn Acworth's book, The New Matriarchy, surveys the legal status of women throughout recorded Western history, and she observed that "It is not fortuitous that so many of the great leaders of the Philanthropic Movement of the [Nineteenth] century were women.". Held by only 5 COPAC/WorldCat member libraries worldwide. Nicholas Avenon (d. 1599), merchant tailor of London, conveyed to 12 trustees a 6 a. marsh, Withering's mead. On his death the income from this land provided 24 poor persons with a penny loaf each every Sunday, any more going to an annual sermon preached in the parish church. The trustees, all laymen, were empowered to renew the trust, but by 1834 it had long lapsed and the charity was controlled by the vicar. The land, at Middle marsh, in Plaistow, was then let for £21, and loaves were being distributed among inmates of alms-houses. Avenon's charity was included but later questioned, as a Distributive Charity, in the scheme of 1870. But in 1879 the Charity Commissioners ruled that the central charity board should govern it. This was bound about 1920 by Eric Wilfred Dickens, bookbinder, (born 24/9/1888) of 46 Mordaunt St. Stockwell, London. The spine has a leather label and five raised bands & is densely tooled in gilt. This copy was used as a sample of Mr Dickens bookbinding skill & was purchased by us directly from the bookbinders grandson in its original book cabinet.. Hardcover. Good.

Cuccioni published the .New Collection of Ancient and Modern Views and of the City of Rome of engravings of Roman monuments between 1820 and 1840 and later took up photographing Rome, also to great acclaim, in 1852. It is uncommon to find a copy in the original wrappers, especially when they are so well preserved.
