Originally published in March 1898, but with many errors, the book was issued with the corrections in this "Silver Library" edition in January 1899 (1440 copies), with a reprint in February 1901 (1000 copies of which 337 sold). Minor bumping to spine ends and corners of black boards and some shelf-wear to bottom edge of same, a previous owner's name and date (1963) on f/ep, some yellowing to the pages, but otherwise a not too bad, tight copy of this hard-cover book. Rosemary Howard met her future husband Vincent Uwemedimo, a Nigerian lawyer, when studying teaching in London, and went to live in Nigeria after their marriage. The book deals mostly with their life in Nigeria. She later established Hillside Preparatory School in Calabar in 1971, staying in charge for thirty years before her retirement. She died in 2012. Doesn't seem to be a common book. 238pp, b&w frontispiece.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good/Fair. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

An account of the trial of Patrick Sellar in 1816, when he was accused of culpable homicide in that he caused the death of an old woman who died of burns after Sellar's men set fire to her house in 1814 when evicting tenants of the Sutherland Estates at Strathnaver. Deals with Peter Munuit, who founded the first permanent European settlement in Delaware in 1638 when working for the Swedish crown, and with his ship the Kalmar Nyckel, which made four voyages across the Atlantic to the new colony, bringing new settlers and supplies.
