Description:
Imagine a book about a man who planted trees in an edition that itself comes from a tree, for this magnificent volume is covered with the bark of the mulberry tree.Imagine also an ancient and enchanted land in the south of France. The Vaucluse inspired Jean Giono to write this book and the renowned photographer, Martine Franck, to create five hauntingly beautiful photogravures of scenes from that magical land.Andre Malraux called Giono (1895-1970) "one of the greatest writers of our generation." Inspired by God or Pan, perhaps—Giono's hero in this story expresses humanity's ancient kinship with the earth and reverence for all living things. The original French text alternates, line by line, with the English translation.Five photogravures by Martine Franck.Edition limited to 300 numbered copies. Each book signed by Martine Franck. The complex photogravure process, in which a photographic image is transferred to a copper plate using gelatin coated paper, can reveal subtleties that even the photographer… Read More

Description:
Maya Angelou's Music, Deep Rivers in My Soul is a groundbreaking event for us, a first edition that she wrote especially for our members! She also inspire the exceptional artist, Dean Mitchell, to create six glorious etchings for the book.Even better, Maya Angelou inspired Wynton Marsalis to compose and perform with her a thirty minute CD with Dr. Angelou reading her poem. And, inspired by Dean Mitchell, the esteemed art critic of The New York Times, Michael Kimmelman, in the April 26, 2002 edition devoted nearly the entire front page of the Arts section to a glowing review."Mr. Mitchell's works are subtly tuned character studies with an eye toward abstract form and charismatic light. Mr. Mitchell is a virtual modern-day Vermeer of ordinary black people given dignity through the eloquence of his concentration and touch."From the art critic of New Orleans' Times-Picayune: "In the world of romantic realism, it doesn't get much better than this."Six colored etchings and Afterword by Dean Mitchell.CD of… Read More

Description:
When in the summer before the 1917 October Revolution Boris Pasternak wrote My Sister–Life, it aroused wild enthusiasm and established him as a genius of Russian poetry. As brilliant, is this English translation by the poet, Mark Rudman. In the original Russian the poems were strictly rhythmical and written mostly in a classical meter. Most of them rhyme. Rudman has translated them into free verse, paralleling Pasternak's rhythm and retaining his stanzas. He created, said a reviewer, "a natural American syntax with Pasternak's irrepressible vitality and capacity for regeneration."Six etchings by Yuri Kuper.Edition limited to 250 numbered copies. Each book signed by Yuri Kuper. The acclaimed Russian born artist, Yuri Kuper, chose Aldo Crommelynck to print his etchings on Hannemule paper in Paris. For the text the H.M.P Mill in Connecticut made the paper by hand to resemble the stock produced in 1920's Russia, even incorporating bits of Russian newspapers with the rags and cotton pulp. The binding,… Read More
