Collates complete; 715, [5] pp. Small amount of worming, affecting the text on pp. 107-120. Previous owner's name on the front flyleaf, dated 1770. Later spine, and repair by a conservator to the edges of the contemporary boards. Full leather, with raised bands and lettering in gilt on the spine. Binder incorrectly stamped the publication date on the spine as 1751 instead of 1721. Very Good binding.

Lugd. Batav. et Roterodami: Ex Officina Hackiana, 1665. First Edition thus. Full Leather. First Edition thus of Quintilian's Institutionum Oratoriarum, edited by Schrevel and completed by Gronovius after Schrevel's passing. Additional title page, engraved. Engraved headpieces, tailpieces, and initials. With index. OCLC notes that this was published alongside a second volume, Declamationes Undeviginti, not present. Nameplate on the marbled front pastedown; previous owner's name in ink on the title and engraved title page. Front board fully separated, and rear joint cracked, but both holding well due to leather reinforcements at the top and bottom of the spine. Full calf, with gilt decorations and leather label on the spine in compartments. All edges red.

Edinburgi: Stewart et Watson, 1812. Full Leather. Good binding. A clean copy of six volumes bound in one. Rare, with only one copy found in OCLC. Bound in calf with the front and rear boards separated but holding. Spine reinforced with leather bands at the top and bottom. Decorations and lettering stamped in gilt in compartments on the spine. Front endpaper rubbed through, where a blue stamp once was. Marbled endpapers. Silk ribbon marker laid in. All edges marbled. Good binding.

Lvgd. Batavorvm: Ex Officina Elzeviriana, 1654. Second Elsevier Edition. Full Leather. Very Good binding. The Second Edition published by the Elsevier Press and the least common of the Elsevier printings. Velleius' Roman History is important for its treatment of the rise and reign of Augustus. Engraved title page, initials, headpieces, and tailpieces. Divisional half title for the Gerardi Vossii G.F. Notae in M. Velleivm Patercvlvm. Pagination resets; collates complete, with an index before the Notae, and an Addenda and Errata leaf at the rear. [12], 116, [28], 128, [2] pp. Contemporary owner's name and provenance on the front endpaper, name also on first page of text, dated 1668; very faint dampstaining affecting the upper corner, near the hinge, of the preliminary leaves. Minor surface loss to the top of the yapp edges. Full vellum, with small, rigid yapp edges, and lettering in ink on the spine. All edges speckled blue. 32mo in twelve. Uncommon, we locate only three copies on OCLC. Very Good binding.

New York: J. S. Ogilvie, 1882. Original Wrappers. Fair binding. Frontispiece; Front and rear covers held on by previously applied tape. Front and rear covers are in worn and brittle shape with tears and chips on edges. A few of the text pages have closed tears and chips on side edges. No pencil or ink markings in text. Pages 131, 133, and 135 have previously applied scotch tape at the top. No text affected. Fair binding.

Volume for 1943 with beginning of separation along the joints, and minor shelfwear to each volume along the spine. Volume for 1962 lacking the initial leaf, a publisher's advertisement. Paperback. Very Good binding.

Signed. This issue of Playboy magazine featuring Tai Collins on the cover; the lead article: "Tai Collins: The Woman Senator Chuck Robb Couldn't Resist." Ms. Collins alleged that she and Mr. Robb had an 18-month affair.~This copy Signed by Ms .Collins with an inscription on the front cover.

Los Angeles: F. G. Thayer, 1923. A substantial group of The Magical Bulletin, which was issued by the Thayer concern of Los Angeles for over a decade, as the "house organ of the Magic Shop of the West". The Bulletin grew from being a small newsletters to a more expansive publication, which included many tricks and effects. While not a complete run, these cover from 1917 to 1922, with a few issues lacking. The issues were stored in notebooks (now discarded) so all have three holes punches, and some have some soiling and minor loss. Most are in Very Good condition with a slightly musty odor. With some black and white photographs of magicians of the day, and many diagrams of tricks.

NY: Bancroft & Holley, 1836. Full Leather. Very Good binding. The second of two issues of this short-lived literary annual or gift book, containing material by J. K. Paulding, Washington Irving and W. G. Simms. With yellow glazed flyleaves, with have oxidized; engraved frontispiece and title vignette, plus eleven additional inserted engraved plates. Varying degrees of foxing pretty much throughout. Bound in olive green leather, elaborately stamped in blind and gilt. Quite an attractively bright binding for its period. This copy has been recased. Very Good binding.

With 59 full page plates in Vol. I, 9 of which are duplicates on poorer paper, and 58 full page plates in Vol. II, 9 of which are duplicates; with 25 white Fine Paper engravings pasted down in Vol. I, and 25 in Vol. II; with 11 gray Papier de Chine engravings pasted down in Vol. I, and 11 in Vol. II. Most of the engravings are illustrations of the various scenes, with a few portrait plates; all of the Papier de Chine illustrations are small engraved illustrations meant for the start of each canto, and are facing duplicates on Fine Paper. Hinges reinforced by a conservator with Japanese tissue paper. Signed full red morroco binding by Matthews; with gilt lettering and decorations. Marbled endpapers and gilt dentelles. Top edge gilt. Good binding.

Some embrowning to the text and musical notation. Horizontal crease at the center of the leaves. Volume I only; reprinted from the 1887 edition. With 14 full page plates, most of which are plans, illustrations, or maps. Also with 15 folding maps of Malabar. Toning to the endpapers and preliminaries, and very scattered and minor foxing. Green cloth with gilt lettering. Very Good binding.

Council of the City of Manchester, 1904. First Edition. Quarter Leather. Very Good binding. Large 8vo.; in the job printer's binding of quarter calf over marbled boards, with a paper label to the spine; xii, 379 pages; previous owner name pencilled on the front endpaper.~~While "Old Manchester" is today considered a neighborhood of Richmond, such was not always the case. For 250 years the James River divided Richmond on the north bank from Manchester on the south. There were toll ferries and toll bridges. These ordinances date from the period between the time Manchester became an independent city in 1874 and 1910 when the city of Richmond annexed Manchester. ~~"Embracing all Ordinances of a General Nature Down to October 1, 1904." Most uncommon.~. Very Good binding.

Philadelphia, PA: Lindsay & Blakiston, 1859. Very Good binding. A sturdy copy with a color frontispiece, black and white illustrations, and foxing on pages throughout. The book is bound in 1/4 leather over brown cloth, with some small loss to the spine at the top and bottom. Very Good binding.

New York | Baltimore: A. S. Barnes | J. W. Bond & co, 1859. Early Printing. Embossed Cloth. Very Good binding. An early printing of this daily devotional manual, compiled by Nathan Brooks, who as not only a clergyman and education but also the founder, with J. E. Snograss, of the American Museum, which evolved from The North American Quarterly (not to be confused with Matthew Carey's journal of the same name). The publisher's brown embossed cloth binding has some minor loss to the cloth; it has titling in gold to the front board; pages have darkened. First published in 1851, it is uncommon even in this early printing. Very Good binding.

London: His Majesty's Stationery Office, 1925. Hard Cover. Good binding. 8vo., in worn and chipped printed paper covered boards backed in green cloth with titling on the spine. 279 pages, followed by 207 line drawn plates, several folding; with 18 pages of ads for military books on the pastedowns and at the front and rear of the book. The printed endpapers, front and rear, are stained. Good binding.

Halifax Town, N. C., 1813. Folded leaf;, 12 1/4 x 15"; 4 pages; with loss affecting a word where the seal was broken;. there is some separation at a fold; this manuscript letter from Thomas Hughes to his sister in Richmond, Frances T. Hughes, is dated "Halifax Town, N. C., May 14, 1813".~~Thomas Hughes was apparently filling in for the clerk of Halifax County who was laboring under "sever disposition". He describes visiting the encampment of Major Taylor of Salisbury where he noted "the tents all pitched in a regular order, the martial music and the difference [sic] equipage of the officers". ~~ He notes his reading of novels [Winter in London and ELiza Wharton, the American Coquette].~~Of interest, he records the news that the British had burnt Havre de Grace "and committed many other depredations in the State of Maryland".~~We note, from the holdings of the Virginia Museum of History and Culture, that Mr. Hughes married several years later.
