Description:
Amsterdam: Covens & Mortier, 1725. Very good or better, large 20 panel linen-backed map folding into original card case with label (scuffed and chipped but legible). The image itself measures 37.5x45.5 inches (95x116 cm). The large and decorative cartouches (there are two) show more peaceful and warlike allegorical representation; there is slight variation in the texts. These areas, with fortresses marked, represent late 17th and early 18th century European conflicts, obviously with France's pivotal perspective at the time. This particular set was derived from Sanson's work (as the maps of Covens & Mortier were frequently derivative of someone else's). There is early hand coloring of the map, with the cartouches in b&w. The case measures 12x8 inches. .

Description:
Augsbourg: Lotter, 1794. Very good, with some general soiling, in remarkably good condition for something this size (slight fraying to some of linen at edges). This is a huge 24 panel linen backed map with title cartouches (both showing military themes with flags and cannon) in both French and German. This is the area of conflict of the Austrian Empire, during the conflicts between France and Germany. It is enormously detailed, with a few areas of damage to the verso linen, but virtually no image loss. The folding map opens to 45x64 inches (114x163cm). The authors are the sons of Tobias Lotter, and Matthieu was responsible for the business after his father's death. As might be imagined, this is quite an elaborate map, with details centering on the main regional waterways, including the Rhine and Mosel rivers. .

Description:
London, 1816. Very good condition, early hand colored 16 panel linen backed map, with image measuring 16.75x22.5 inches. The date is approximate, as the initial issue of this map was in October of 1815, to capitalize commercially on Napoleon's exile to the island. On that first issue, based on Sellers map of the island in 1675 "Atlas Maritimus" (in turn taken from early Dutch mapmakers), the location of Napoleon's residence had been mislabelled (was indicated as the Plantation House). In this later issue, the error has been corrected, and both his earlier residence at The Briars, and subsequent Longwood residence are correctly labelled. This folds into a 6x4.75 inch gray card case (original) with the original title label recto, and small image of Napoleon lounging under a palm tree verso. There are a couple of small marginal verso stains on the verso, but none on the front of the case, and no stains on the map. The map is very attractive with sailing ships, and many interesting… Read More
