Paris: Vanoest, Les Editions d'Art et d'Histoire, 1948. First edition.. A bright and clean copy in an attractive binding in near fine condition.. Pp. 255; 94 full-page photographic plates with 271 individual figures. Later black cloth, lettered in gilt on the spine, green marbled endpapers, 4to. In 1900 Parmentier was appointed by the École Française d'Extrême-Orient (EFEO) to study and restore monuments of the Cham in Vietnam. Later, he participated in archaeological excavations at M? S?n in 1903-1904, and at Duong Dong and Chanh Lo in 1905 In 1908 he began preparing a program for the conservation of Angkor Wat. He later worked in Hanoi and in Laos. Parmentier is considered the honorary head of the archaeological services of the École Française d'Extrême-Orient. This volume documents his career and discoveries. Small Vietnamese name sticker on the title page, no other ownership marks.

Two pages have small marginal tears to paper with no effect to the text, the front attached endpaper has two old creases from the board that extend into the first section of the text, all of the text-pages and woodcuts are very bright and clean; a tight and clean copy in near fine condition.. (28), 381, (1, colophon); general title and six divisional titles each with a large woodcut device, 161 woodcuts in the text, including a portrait of the author, 2 skeletons, and 158 large cuts of birds. Eighteenth-century brown one-quarter calf leather over sprinkled paper-covered boards (the boards are likely the original due to a faint imprint of another cover beneath the sprinkled paper and due to fact that the book is sewn on alum-tawed thongs laced into the boards), tall 4to (13 x 9 inches). The lamprey is an eel-like jawless fish that lives in coastal and freshwaters. From the research collection of herpetologist Lauren E. Brown with his signature on the front endpaper. There is an earlier signature of Albert R. Shadle on the title page. Dr. Albert R. Shadle (1885–1963) was an American biologist noted for his research into porcupines and beavers. From 1919 until 1953, Shadle served as chairman of the biology department, and was instrumental in the advancement of science education at the State University of New York at Buffalo. A few annotations in pencil to the text, likely in the hand of Albert Shadle.

Lang Rongrien Rockshelter was the first site excavated in Thailand to produce a clearly stratified, charcoal-dated late Pleistocene deposit beneath a well-defined Early Holocene Hoabinhian deposit.
