Description:
First Edition, London: 1842. The author's copy, with his emendations, sent as a gift to H. Buxton Forman. Original publisher's boards and ffep detached, with creasing to lower rear board and spine worn; remnants of a paper title label. Forman has affixed his bookplate to the inner front board and tipped in an autograph letter, addressed to him, dated 23 Dec. 1885 from W.M.W. Call, in which the correspondent asks Forman's "acceptance" of the volume and declines an invitation to join the Shelley committee, citing "clerical elements"; there is also discussion of additional matters relating to this famous poet and his circle, with mention of E.J. Trelawny and a series of MS letters to which Call had access. An interesting relic of the late-nineteenth century's fascination with Shelley and a unique copy of a scarce work.
