a very nice clean unmarked first edition of Stewart White's classic African adventure. White lettering on spine almost completely present, tiny tear (1mm) top of spine, very tiny shelf wear.

This is number 23 of the limited edition of 1000 of Hudson's letters to Garnett. Very good plus condition, clean, tight and unmarked in the very rare original somewhat chipped dust jacket. The dj is a solid lighter tan. The darker portion in the photo is caused by a shadow.

356 pp. + 12 pp ads. 1856 First Edition, First Issue, No mention of author on title page. Incredibly scarce, rare. Blue blind stamped cloth, gilt lettering on spine. Some wear top and bottom of spine, corners bumped and slight indent bottom edge front cover, minor staining on covers. Previous owner inscription Charles Butler, Eldorado, Ks. Freemont was the first presidental candidate for the new anti-slavery Republican Party. This book was probably issued to promote Freemont's bid. Book's owner, however, lived in Butler County, KS, named for pro-slavery advocate Andrew Butler, senator from SC. Relationship of names is not known.

Very good copy, slight wear top and bottom of spine and corners, brown cloth. Overall a nice copy of 1859 printing with 1857copyright. Extremely scarce. Owner inscriptions on Frep and frontispiece. Three inks spots and small stains on front cover. See photo.
