From the Preface: "About two and a half years ago (this would be 1992-93), fuelled by enthusiasm, we decided to attempt to collate some of the history of Kilbirnie into a publication. Initially, we had a very well-attended open evening featuring old historical photos, two Kilbirnie people to talk, and our local history librarian who outlined the need to preserve historical detail. After that many people, residents and former residents, began to lend us treasured photos and mementoes and a committee was formed to collate the information."
