Ashland, KY: [Columbia Theatre], 1920. First Edition. Softcover. Fine. 12mo, [6pp.] A fine copy in the publisher's salmon-pink glued wraps. Ephemeral program for the short-lived Columbia Theatre in Ashland, Kentucky. Loaded with advertisements for contemporary businesses, there are about two baseball cards' worth of information about the actual films being shown at the theatre! An excellent and well-preserved snapshot of local history. The Columbia was built in 1910 and closed in 1928, so while this pamphlet is undated, we can place it within that time frame.

mostly Nairobi, 1959. A large grouping or small archive, consisting of press photographs (mostly in the 6" x 9" or 8" x 10" size range, with a few larger and some smaller) of the Queen Mother's visit to Kenya in February of 1959. The manila folder which houses the documents is labeled "Visit of H. M. The Queen Mother February 1959 Background Information on Kenya." Contents consist of 27 press photographs of the Queen Mother (or a few related figures), mostly without snipes, which cover the trip itself. These mostly bear stamps on the reverse, reading "Department of Information, Nairobi, Kenya." Another 52 photos pre-date the trip, which show various people and places that will be visisted by the Queen Mother. Chicago: Sears, Roebuck & Co, 1898. First Edition. Near fine. Poster (or very large broadside), printed in black on thin pink paper, and measuring about 18" x 24" (46cm x 61cm). In excellent condition, appearing almost as new old stock, with an old, dull ridge (not a creased fold) along the middle horizontally. Could easily be framed and appear completely flat. Very near fine, with only the most trivial sunning to extremities, lending credibility to its authenticity as a 19th century original. Printing code including the sequence "4-28-1898" would seem to indicate the date. (Note that we used two coins as weights to photograph the poster; these do not conceal any wear or defects to the corners). A fantastic poster, issued by Sears, Roebuck, advertising a kind of traveling lecture about recent doings in the Klondike Gold Rush, way up in the remote Yukon Territory of Canada and nearby Alaska. Washington DC: G. S. Gideon, Printer, 1858. First Edition. Softcover (clasped wraps). Good +. Octavo, 29pp. A good or better copy in clasped wraps. A unique binding, held together with a small clasp at the top of the front wrap. Front wrap itself is detached, but present, with some chipping. The binding is otherwise intact, and there is some age-toning to the edges of the margins. The text is bright and clean. One thin crease through the middle of the pamphlet, not affecting the legibility of the text. Overall a clean, square example. This is an impassioned defense of slavery as an institution, and of the spread of it into Kansas and the expanding US territory. Benjamin, one of the first prominent American Jewish politicians, was at the time a Senator from Louisiana, and would become in a few years' time the Secretary of State of the Confederate States of America. A crisp, clean copy, near fine, with the inner hinges a bit stressed, but holding. In a near fine dust jacket, lightly toned on the flaps and with some gentle wear at the crown. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Karsh on the front free endpaper: "Inscribed for Igor Kropotkin, with the warm personal regard of Yousuf Karsh 1976." The receipient is almost certainly the same Igor Kropotkin who was a major figure in American bookselling, having been the President of the American Bookseller's Association for two decades.

New York: Macmillan, 1969. First Edition. Hardcover. Near fine/near fine. Octavo, 414pp. A crisp, clean, unread copy, very near fine, in the publisher's burgundy cloth. Newer bookseller sticker to the rear free endpaper. In a near fine price-clipped dust jacket, just a touch rubbed, and gently sunned on the spine, with some small and neat, but unnecessary clear tape reinforcements to verso. SIGNED and INSCRIBED by Sorensen on the half-title page: "For Gene Crimson [?] with best wishes, Ted Sorensen Feb. 1988." Laid in is an authentication document from a previous bookseller. Ted Sorensen was John F. Kennedy's primary speechwriter, as well as one of his most trusted advisors. He had a long career in politics following Kennedy's assassination.

Spine lettering sun-faded, some ripping to the rear paste-down, but an otherwise crisp, clean copy, lacking the dust jacket. Presentable copy of this Philo Vance mystery.

Some soiling to boards, and some very faint attendant waviness to a number of pages (though there are no tidemarks). Still a clean, sound copy. One small stamp to one preliminary leaf. Quite uncommon privately published volume, which reprints the letters from Kenneth MacLeish (brother of Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Archibald) to his family while in Europe fighting the First World War. Kenneth MacLeish died in combat, shot down over Belgium. Scarce in commerce.

Octavo, 284pp. Overall a nearly very good example, with a large, but faint dampstain to the page block and the boards, also affecting the dust jacket. Not nearly as bad as it sounds - the worst damage is to the verso of the dust jacket, and there is a bit of stiffness to the pages, but this is an entirely readable and collectible copy. SIGNED and inscribed by both authors on the front free endpaper: "For Sonya Would that I had such an attractive and efficient "girl Friday" Robin Moore 5 June 1972 Philadelphia." Below that inscription: "To Sonya, My warmest regards, June Collins." Moore was a military veteran who wrote several military-themed novels, and also "The French Connection," the true story which was adapted into the legendary film.
