Description:
Journal of a Voyage in 1811 and 1812, to Madras and China; Returning by the Cape of Good Hope and St. Helena; in the H.C.S. The Hope, Capt. James Pendergrass, First Edition, 24 hand-coloured aquatint plates, 4pp. of advertisements ("Oriental Works Lately Imported by Black, Parry & Co. Booksellers to the Honourable East India Company", 1 July 1814) at end, 3 small spots on title but generally very clean, half red morocco gilt by Roger de Coverley [Abbey Travel 517; Lust 386], 4to, J. Nichols, 1814. The views include India, Malaysia, Macao, Canton and St Helena.Provenance: William Orme Foster (1814-1899), bookplate of Apley Park bookplate. Foster, an iron master and Member of Parliament for South Staffordshire from 1857-1868, purchased the Apley Park estate near Bridgnorth in 1868; by descent to the present owner.

xxiv, 502pp., errata leaf, 1 large folding map, 18 full-page plates and plans (9 colored aquatints). 4to.
Full contemporary speckled polished calf, gilt, original gilt spine laid down. Large margins. Occasional faint offsetting, fine plates.
Housed in beautiful red fitted clamshell box with decorative gilt text.
Fitzclarence, serving in India during the Mahratta campaign, carried peace treaty despatches by overland route from the western frontier of Bundelkund to Bombay, traversing through the desert, exploring pyramids with Salt and Belzoni, down the Nile river, to London via Alexandria and Malta.

Description:
Extremely rare Second quarto edition of 1691, uniquely bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe; Although Julius Caesar appeared in the First Folio of 1623, it did not appear separately in a quarto edition until 1684, almost impossible to find now. This second quarto edition offered was published in 1691; four undated later editions were subsequently published around 1695, without priority, before the turn of the century; some foxing to text leaves, paper flaw to lower outer corner of H2 without loss of text, complete with initial blank A1, a tall copy with headlines and bottom lines intact, 8 5/8 x 6 1/2 in.
Provenance-bookplate of Kenneth Rapoport, American bibliophile renowned for his library of rare scientific works.
London: Printed for Henry Herringman & Richard Bentley, 1691.
