Oxford University Press; second edition, 1952. An improved edition of the original two volume edition published in 1932; upwards of 600 pages, with numerous illustrations. Very slight bumping to both ends of spine, and to corners of boards; very slight spotting to top of text block; jacket has minor damage at the top edge, with small chips at top right of front cover and top right of spine, and various small tears across top of spine and one small tear on top edge of back cover; jacket now safely preserved in protective wrapping; jacket not price clipped. Pages clean and tightly bound.

Boards have very slight bumps at foot of spine and very slight rubbing at top of spine; jacket is very slightly rubbed along top edge and has very slight mark and two small dents (possibly from original manufacture) towards the foot of the rear. Inside, the book is clean and bright and fresh, and tightly bound. Overall, a very attractive copy.

Centaur Press Ltd; first edition, 1972. The dark blue boards are in excellent condition, with nothing but a few very faint etched lines at the back, and one at the front, which are not echoed in the jacket and which may have been caused during the original production process. Internally the book is extremely clean, bright and fresh, and tightly bound. There are no inscriptions. The jacket has the very faintest of rubbing on the top right corner of the front but is otherwise unmarked.

Oxford University Press (Clarendon Press), 1948. Dark blue boards have some bumping at lower and upper edges of spine and light rubbing at the corners. There is minor scuffing on the edge of the rear board of vol 1 and on the edges of both boards of vol 2; vol 2 has some superficial damage to the boards at the rear hinge. The endpapers are slightly browned. Internally, both vols are clean and bright and tightly bound with no markings or inscriptions. There are no dustjackets.

Oxford University Press (Clarendon Press), 1965. Dark blue boards have minor bumping at the top spine edge and there is a very minor mark on the side of the rear hinge. There is moderate bumping to the corners. There is light spotting to the top edge of the text block. Internally, the pages are clean and bright and tightly bound. There are no inscriptions. The light pink paper wrapper is faded and browned at the spine. There is minor wear at the top edge of the spine, a small chip to the top edge of the front panel and a small hole on the righthand side of the back panel. There is rubbing at the flap edges, which have two small tears (one with very minor loss). The jacket is not price clipped.
