Japan: Unpublished, 1909 - 1954. Approximately 430 presumably amateur silver gelatin photographs, 6.5" x 5" and smaller, and a couple of real photo postcards housed in three commercial albums, oblong or vertical quartos measuring about 11 inches by 8 inches. The compiler is unknown but quite possibly "Takamasa" (first name) or his descendants. His photograph is the first image in the album we have identified as album A. The photos are dated as early as 1909 and as late as 1954 with most from the mid twenties to late thirties. Many of the images include manuscript and occasionally rubber-stamped or printed annotations in Japanese on the versos An eight page English translation accompanies the archive. Quite uncommon, OCLC locates a single copy at London's National Art Library, Victoria and Albert Museum (3/26/2020).

[New York: Jimmy Kelly's], no date, ca 1945. Tall 4to, 28 unnumbered pages, illustrated throughout in color & black & white. Original pictorial stiff paper wraps, stapled. Laid in is a printed card (35" x 45") advising a "two-fifty per person" minimum after 10:30 pm due to the "elaborate entertainment." Moderately soiled & toned, brief edge wear, light rubbing, shallow corner creases throughout, otherwise Good or better A splendid "journal" given "as a memento of your visit to the Montmartre of New York" Proprietor Jimmy Kelly, born Giovanni de Silvo (or John DeSilvio), cut his teeth as a boxer, gangster, & Tammany Hall operative before turning to the nightclub business. Opening Jimmy Kelly's in 1921, the New York Times noted that his "Blue Ribbon 100-minute Floor Show" … in which "boys and girls (but chiefly girls) stamp, tap, croon, harmonize and contortion-dance their way without pausing for a long breath had the customers packing in to small space."

[Morristown, New York: Judson Pill Co.], printed by Cosack & Co, of Buffalo & Chicago, no date, ca 1881 (endorsements so dated). 24mo, 32 pages. Original pictorial sewn paper wraps, the upper cover in lithographed color. Slightly soiled & tanned, small rubber stamp of distributing agent J. B. Nies of Howard in Centre County, Pennsylvania at the rear wrap, otherwise Near Fine. The Judson Pill Company was a dummy company of William Henry Comstock, perhaps best known as the purveyor of "Dr. Morse's Indian Root Pills." The formula for Judson's Mountain Herb Pills, which cured every possible complaint, was apparently given to a Dr. Cunard by an Aztec Chief as a gift following the doctor's life-saving treatment of the Chief's daughter. Dr. Cunard, and Dr. Morse, though celebrated and fabulously wealthy, were apparently never actually seen by the public. Not found in OCLC as of 8/13/2020.
