Includes a page of testimonials from other theologians, one of whom writes that Kerr "shows, by an exhaustive induction of the Scripture passages pertaining to the subject, that the law of the Ancient Church, as clearly exhibited both in the Hebrew Old Testament and the Septuagint Version, is clear and distinct, and that our translators, not having perceived the real significance of this law, have fallen into a confused rendering of the technical terms expressive of it, making it impossible for the English reader to attain anything correct or satisfactory concerning it.

The Zion Society for Israel was one of many nineteenth-century organizations dedicated to converting Jews to Christianity, but the first and only one to emerge from Scandanavian-American churches. It was founded in 1878 by two Norwegian Lutherans -- one from Wisconsin and one from Minnesota -- who "saw in the unfulfilled [Biblical] prophecies the bright future in store for the Jews and the sacred obligation resting upon the Church according to the Word of God." Scuffing to extremities, frontispiece laid in loose in Volume II, else about fine. John Askin was a pominent fur trader and merchant who came to North America from Ireland with the British Army in 1758. After the British took over New France, he entered the fur trade and operated a trading post at Fort Michilimackinac. Later, he moved to Detroit, where he continued as a fur trader and was also involved in shipping and land speculation. These personal papers illustrate almost every aspect of life and times in the Old Northwest, including excellent documentation of the Great Lakes fur trade. Oversized; shipping cost will be more than standard for priority or international orders.

According to ANB, "Woolman's ministry had few marks of public success; his role in moving the Quakers away from slaveholding was probably most notable, along with his influence on later abolitionists. The effect of his personal ministry upon countless individuals cannot be measured.
