Description:
Edinburgh: William Blackwood, 1819. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. xx, 424 pp, in blue pebbled cloth with paper spine label. Corners lightly bumped, light soiling to boards; contents clean, partially unopened. From the Introduction: "These songs are a species of composition entirely by themselves. They have no affinity with our ancient ballads of heroism or romance; and one part of them far less with the mellow strains of our pastoral and lyric muses. Their general character is that of a rude energetic humour, that bids defiance to all opposition, in arms, sentiments, or rules of song-writing."

Cincinnati: William Scott, 1866. First Edition. Hardcover. Good. xii, 237 pp, in publisher's blind-stamped brown cloth. Binding tight, previous owner's signature and ink stamp on front free endpaper, moderate foxing throughout, chipping to cloth at spine ends. Errata slip tipped in at title page. Includes a page of testimonials from other theologians, one of whom writes that Kerr "shows, by an exhaustive induction of the Scripture passages pertaining to the subject, that the law of the Ancient Church, as clearly exhibited both in the Hebrew Old Testament and the Septuagint Version, is clear and distinct, and that our translators, not having perceived the real significance of this law, have fallen into a confused rendering of the technical terms expressive of it, making it impossible for the English reader to attain anything correct or satisfactory concerning it.

Minneapolis, 1928. First Edition. Hardcover. Fine. 158 pp, with many illustrations from photographs, including portraits and images of places, buildings, etc. Bound in black cloth with title stamped in green on upper board. Fine copy. No dust jacket, presumably as issued. The Zion Society for Israel was one of many nineteenth-century organizations dedicated to converting Jews to Christianity, but the first and only one to emerge from Scandanavian-American churches. It was founded in 1878 by two Norwegian Lutherans -- one from Wisconsin and one from Minnesota -- who "saw in the unfulfilled [Biblical] prophecies the bright future in store for the Jews and the sacred obligation resting upon the Church according to the Word of God." Although this missionary effort initially met with indifference or antagonism in many congregations, it grew slowly but steadily, expanding to include Swedish and Danish Lutherans. When this fifty-year history was published, members were fundraising for a $50,000 Jubilee…

Description:
London: William Phillips, 1824. Hardcover. Very Good. Octavo, 416 pp. Contemporary full leather binding, rebacked, with original spine laid down. Some toning to endpapers, but generally very clean; binding sound. Woolman (1720-1772) was an American Quaker leader and pioneer abolitionist. His Journal was first published in 1774. According to ANB, "Woolman's ministry had few marks of public success; his role in moving the Quakers away from slaveholding was probably most notable, along with his influence on later abolitionists. The effect of his personal ministry upon countless individuals cannot be measured. His Journal, however, had obvious influence: Henry Crab Robinson called it 'a perfect gem ... in a style of the most exquisite purity and grace' (quoted in J. G. Whittier's introduction to an edition of the Journal published in England), and William Ellery Channing pronounced it'"beyond comparison the sweetest and purest autobiography" in English.' His writings, especially his Journal, were even…
