A 1-1/4" crease on most pages at the bottom, right near the spine. It does not show on the boards themselves or on the d.j. Possibly a printing error. I see a lot of copies online but very few mention a d.j.

Colin O'Brady's pursuit of a goal that had eluded many others was made even more intense by a head-to-head battle that emerged with British polar explorer Captain Louis Rudd--also striving to be "the first". Enduring Antarctica's subzero temperatures and pulling a sled that initially weighed 375 pounds--in complete isolation and through a succession of whiteouts, storms, and a series of near disasters--O'Brady persevered. "Alone with his thoughts for nearly two months in the vastness of the frozen continent--gripped by fear and doubt--he reflected on his past, seeking courage and inspiration in the relationships and experiences that had shaped his life." O'Brady persevered and did make it to the end, just 2-1/2 days before Louis Rudd. They flew out on a plane together.

"Lang's tale has been reprinted almost exactly as it was originally published. The main change has been to Americanize the English spellings. A couple of obvious errors have also been fixed. And, in one of the pictures a winged insectappears, which Lang called a Daddy Long Legs. Since Americans use that name for a type of spider, we have called the creature a Dragonfly. One final minor point: Lang used two words to name his magical wonderland--Fairy Land. We have kept the spelling in the text but have adopted its modern spelling, as one word, for the title."

Edited and with a foreword by Cary Wilkins. VG+ jacket echoes the artwork on the book's front and back illustrations. All illustrations in various sizes in the book are all in colour.
