Movie flyer for a three week engagement at the Heilig Theatre with a daily matinee at 2 pm and an evening showing at 8 pm. Griffith's racist masterpiece demonized African American men but this promotional flyer has a section promoting the film as conveying a message of peace which concludes with: "Armies seldom settle disputed questions of state. But where they accomplish this much, in the wake of a conflict arise newer and more terrible questions. But for the hatreds engendered in the Civil War, the suffering of the Reconstruction period would never have been known."

SIGNED by Underhill toward the bottom of the title-page. Laid in: (1) a sheet of coated paper on which is printed a portrait of an African American man (Underhill?); and (2) an outline for a brief letter about this book to Underhill on a sheet of note paper (Episcopal Diocese of Philadelphia letterhead). According to an autobiographical poem found at pages 71-77, Underhill was born in Pennsylvania and earned his living working in a cafe until he went blind. Thereafter, he stayed home to take care of his three children, and his wife worked to support them until she died, after which his two oldest children worked to support the family.

This was a supplement promoting Bermuda as the spot for spending Spring Break and giving some advice as to where to stay, where to buy things, etc. Most of the advertisements are from various businesses in Bermuda.

Fort Lauderdale, n.d.. Good. Small broadside flyer. 13 x 18 cm. Glued green triangular paper at two corners to reinforce flyer, replace missing corners and (probably) mount this in a scrapbook. Corner of flyer missing at the other two corners with corners of broadside mostly missing behind the added green corners. Online information suggests that the Harlem High Hatters were active in the 1930s so that may date this broadside. Most information relates to performances Harlem High Hatters in the Midwest.

San Francisco: San Francisco News Company, 1877. 1st ed. Hardcover. Good. 132p. Original violet or mauve cloth. 16 cm. Cover somewhat worn and quite faded, especially around edges and on backstrip. INSCRIBED at top of title-page ("To T. H. Phillips, with compliments of the authoress"). Ambrose Bierce was thought by some to have been the author of this defense of the waltz and dancing. We have no answer to that important question but feel sure that this inscription in this book is not in Bierce's hand.
