Vol. 2: 496 numbered leaves, some misnumbered, some worming to leaves 488 and following, increasing toward end. Many pages with one or more elaborate initial capitals with floral motifs. Title pages with near contemporary ink inscriptions, some marked through. Light dampstaining. Bound in matching full vellum with loss to spine revealing old manuscript liner (Vol. 2) and old library label and ink title to spine (Vol. 1). Some soiling to covers. Each volume with two of four later ties present. Both volumes professionally conserved and preserved in original state. A very good set of this scarce early printing of the sermons of St. Bernard of Clairveaux, the principal builder of the Cistercian Order and the preacher whose sermon at Vezelay prompted the Second Crusade (1146-1149).

Still a very good copy of this rare work with notable provenance from the library of Samuel Hart. Rare Early Baltimore German Psalter from the library of Samuel Hart, which experienced a fire that damaged a number of books. As a result, items from Hart's library are extremely rare. Samuel Hart (1845-1917) was dean of the Berkeley Divinity School, the (un)official "middle way" seminary of the Episcopal Church at Middletown, Connecticut. Covers lightly worn. An interesting German (re)printing of a privately printed argument by a Philadelphian that "stage plays" were contrary to the Christian Religion. Although the argument was not new (it had been a subject of dispute since at least the 16th Century), this particular incarnation was something of a brief cause celebre, with the rather obscure American publication finding a much wider audience through German and French editions.
