Description:
This is a first edition of Dickens' 7th serialized novel, 'Dombey and Son' smartly bound in contemporay half-calf. This edition carries several first state hallmarks, including the vignette of Captian Cuttle with hook on his left arm, no page entry for the frontis and title page on page ixv, p.14 'aint' has no apostrophe, p.582's last line has no full stop. The book includes 38 plates by H.K. Bronwe (Phiz) and an engraved frontispiece and vignette to title page. Very Good Condition. Half-bound in brown calf with marble paper covered boards. Bound by Simms & Dinham of Manchester. Binding is firm and pages are light tanned. Plates carry the usual light browning and foxing that is common with Dickens plates. Boards have light edge-wear with minor peeling to leather at corners and spine ends. Spine is sound and gilt lettering remains bright.
