Paris: Edward W. Titus, at the Sign of the Black Manikin, 1932. First edition. 146 pp. Deep blue buckram, spine and front board lettered in gilt, with the dust jacket. The jacket shows some edgewear with some very minor chipping, lower corners very slightly bumped, but overall a very clean and fresh copy, unopened. Nin's first book. 550 copies were printed; this is marked "complimentary copy" in holograph. The book was the last title Titus issued under his imprint; Nin wrote it in only sixteen days.

Top edge a little browned, jacket spine sunned as usually seen, some edgewear to jacket. With both the Huelsenbeck and Tzara leaflets laid in. Scarce in good condition. Prepared by Motherwell with the collaboration of some of the major Dada figures, still the most comprehensive and important anthology of Dada writings in any language. It contains every major text on the Dada movement, including retrospective studies, personal memoirs, and prime examples.

First edition of the poet's first book (following a two-poem pamphlet published by the Bowery Press), which preceded the trade collection of the same name by four years. One of 225 copies printed. Light brown wrappers, title on black on spine. Title-page image linocut by Thomas Kovacs. A fine copy. Hagstrom & Morgan A2. Gioia said of this book, "I had consciously constructed Daily Horoscope as a self-contained linguistic world in which each poem interlocked-both openly and secretly-with all the others. A small chapbook was the ideal form of publication, giving the sequence an intimacy and independence lost when the poems were reprinted four years later as part of a larger trade collection." Although not called for, signed by Gioia on the colophon.

First Fulcrum edition, adding poems not present in the earlier Migrant Press editions. 48 pp. Blue cloth, spine lettered in gilt, with the dust jacket. The source of much controversy, as Finlay was displeased that Fulcrum presented the book as a first edition despite earlier editions having been published. He sued the publisher and won the case, the financial obligations leading to the dissolution of the press. Top edge a bit dusty, jacket scuffed with some creasing and a closed tear at the head of the spine. Ownership stamp on front free endpaper of Roy L. Walford, the noted gerontologist, UCLA professor, and Biosphere 2 physician.

First edition of Hall's second regularly published book. 63 pp. A very good or better copy with some edgewear in a very good jacket which is chipped along the top edge, rubbed and browned along the front edges, shows some age-toning, and is darkened on the spine.

This issue of his magazine contains Carver's "A Night Out" (later retitled "Signals" in Will You Please Be Quiet, Please?). This issue also includes an early story by Carver's good friend William Kittredge, "The Red Room." Original printed wraps. 224 pp. Some rubbing and wear to the covers; a very good or better copy of an uncommon early Carver item.

A classic Brooklyn novel, about which Jonathan Franzen said, "I don't think there's a more pure gratitude than the one I felt toward a stranger who twenty years earlier had cared enough about herself and about her art to produce such a perfectly realized book." Quite scarce.

Paris: Librairie Stock, 1923. First edition. Quarto. [272] pp. Original printed wrappers, glassine. Some minor handling wear, front and rear cover slightly shorter than text block, near fine. Of a total edition of 625 copies, this is one of 100 copies on Madagascar, with an original drawing by Cocteau bound in with annotated title ("avec dessin ou annotation de l'auteur sur page de garde"). The drawing is of a terrier with a bow on its collar, initialed and annotated by the artist, "Chien fait par Picasso dans un seul bout de carton." A beautiful, fairly early collection of Cocteau's drawings, printed on rectos only and presented without text in some thematic sections (including "Le mauvais lieu," which includes scenes of bars populated by cross-dressers, same-sex couples, and others), and many portraits, including Satie, Radiguet, Bakst, and Picasso, to whom the book is dedicated. Housed in a custom clamshell box. OCLC locates less than twenty copies in America across several records.

Paris: Le Point Cardinal, 1962. First edition. Single sheet, folded three times. Slight toning, small stain to head of rear panel, else fine. Reproduces a drawing by Zürn, with an indecipherable calligraphic text by Max Ernst. A limited edition with an original print was published in an edition of sixty copies; this one of the regular copies.
