[n.p., likely Stockton], 1780. Good with faint creases and several holes/tears expertly repaired, with some loss of text.. An apparently unrecorded broadside concerning a scandal caused when the widower "J.H." (likely John Hope) took in a young maid to help around his home. Hope defends himself against an allegation of an inappropriate relationship with the maid from "M.C." The "M.C." and "J.H." are identified in early manuscript ink and later pencil as Mat[t]hew Consett and J. Hope, respectively, both active in County Durham, and Hope published a book in Stockton, Thoughts in Prose and Verse started in his walks. Hope's wife died in 1767 and he died in 1785, which gives a rough period for when this interesting piece of verse was written.

A good copy in contemporary leather, with substantial rubbing, hinges started, first few leaves loose, foxing throughout, many pages dog-eared, with contemporary and later inscriptions to endpapers, title page verso, ad page, and top edge.. First Edition. Felcone notes that this book compiled all of New Jersey's laws in force, but for the first time arranged them by topic, along with relevant court opinions. Large 8vo. xxiv, 728pp. Felcone 629.

First edition. A historical romance set in the 17th-century Balkan Peninsula, about the Duke Christian of Luneburg's efforts to free the Bohemians, Croats, and others from domination by the Turks. "His Majesty George IV was so pleased with [her prior work] that he requested Miss Porter to take for her next hero his great ancestor, Duke Christian of Luneburg. . . she complies, of course, with His Majesty's gracious request. . . The king furnished her with the documents, and declared that the 'work had been completed according to his fullest wishes.'"
