Description:
Based originally on Thomas Bulfinch's "Age of Fable" (1855) accompanied by an interpretative and illustrative commentary. Written by Charles Mills Gayley, Litt.D., LL.D., Professor of the English Language and Literature in The University of California at Berkley. His magnum opus, The Classic Myths in English Literature and in Art, remains valuable today for its thoughtful reviews of the ancient myths and their recurring appearance in literature and art. He not only covers Greek and Roman mythology, but includes a plethora of more obscure and lesser known deities, gods and demigods. This book includes a "family tree" style table that folds out covering the race of Iapetus, Deucalion, Atlas and Hellen. This was a former library book , but is still in really good condition, with minimal shelf wear and a solid spine. It has been signed by a previous owner inside of the front cover, and has a small bit of writing in the pages.
