A complete set of Le Bambou. London., 1972.. Original publisher's white card wrappers with titles to front cover in black.. 8vo. (164 x 114 mm).. White card with inserted folded leaf of cream paper with exhibition details recto and verse verso and single mounted photographic plate captioned 'A Day of Pleasure' with the 'GG' stamp in red at lower right. The scarce announcement card to the exhibition 'The Bar' in 1972. Three shows by Gilbert & George opened simultaneously in November 1972 (Anthony D’Offay Gallery, Situation and Nigel Greenwood), all shows related to drinking at Ball’s Brothers Wine Bar in Bethnal Green in London. Both Gilbert & George were arrested and locked up on separate occasions in the 1970s. Drinking became their lives and art, a total art work. The photograph in this invite, as usual during this period of work, apparently shows George in a skewed doorway, demonstrating the effects of intoxication. The adjacent verse is gin-related and reads as follows: 'From the Cradle as a Kiddy / To the Bottle I… Read More

Munich.: Aktionsraum 1., 1970.. Large sheet of white paper. (863 x 608 mm).. Monochrome screenprint image recto only. Poster for the 'Bewohner' art performance. A poster without text, consisting only of a photograph of a young girl. This was one of the portrait ‘heads’ that appeared in the windows and balconies of the apartment building reproduced on Nemetschek's poster for the 'Bewohner' performance. In 1969 Eva Madelung (patron), Peter Nemetschek (artist photographer) and Alfred Gulden (theatre studies) established Aktionsraum 1 as an avant-garde collective in Munich. They created a space for young artists in which conventional works and presentational forms from the art-world were to be avoided in favour of providing an effective public platform for the new performative art. Over the next year, 50 projects concerned with actionism, performance, and Arte Povera took place in a rented and empty factory on Waltherstrasse. Description:
London.: Grey Editions., 1986.. Publisher's wrappers, lightly worn at edges.. Oblong 4to.. Unpaginated, with 33 four-color plates. Signed copy of Paul Graham's 'Beyond Caring'. 'Beyond Caring is a searing indictment of the conditions in social security and unemployment benefit offices across Britain. Throughout 1984 and 1985 photographer Paul Graham visited the waiting rooms, corridors and cubicles of the Department of Health and Social Security and the Department of Employment, to document the squalor, all-day queues and inadequate service in this most vital section of the welfare state. Each photograph dramatically conveys the misery and sheer human waste endured by the many millions at the poorer end of our society. They build to form a unique document of the suffering and hardship caused under the current welfare benefits system, and give powerful voice to the argument for its compassionate reform.' (From publisher's statement). [Parr, M. and Badger, G., The Photobook: A History Vol.2, p.300].

Description:
St. Petersburg., 1910.. Original wrappers, chipped at edges.. 8vo.. Monochrome text illustrations. Text in Russian. Presentation copy from the Russian scientist Nekrasov. Vladimir Bekhterev (1857-1927), the prolific neurologist and social psychologist, studied at the Military Medical Academy of St. Petersburg the same time as Pavlov, obtaining his doctorate in 1881 and returning in 1893 as a professor of psychic and nervous diseases. Among his many accomplishments, he founded the first experimental psychology laboratory at the University of Kazan in 1885 and the Psychoneurological Institute in 1908, which has since been renamed in his honour. He described the large bundles of the brain stem and the pia mater nodes of the base of the brains; studied and described the reticular formation in 1885, and established the precise location of the taste centre within the brain cortex in 1900. He has been eponymously recognised by having several brain structures, such as "Bechterev's Nucleus," named after him.

Description:
(Brussels).: (Herman Daled)., (1971).. Single sheet of thin black tissue with minuscule central printed gold text. (Sheet size: 365 x 495 mm). A superb copy of James Lee Byars' fragile conceptual book. James Lee Byars had intended to collect the important questions of 100 eminent thinkers - in the fields of art, science, philosophy and theology - although many of the eminent thinkers refused to respond. He had previously performed 'I'm Collecting Questions' in 1969 and, in association, his slightly later work 'The World Question Center'. In conjunction with both of these performances, Byars issued this, his conceptual book with imaginary covers with central printed text in gold of 100 questions (or statements made into questions with the addition of a question mark) in 1971 as 'The Black Book' at a performance in Belgium. The work was later used as the cover for an issue of Flash Art; the title 'The Black Book' was also used for a Byars show at the Michael Werner Gallery in Cologne. This copy has… Read More

Complete set of the richly illustrated periodical 'Blank Page,' an impressive and extensive survey of the plastic arts. Presented as original multiples, the works featured include lithographs, screenprints, relief prints, woodcuts, collages, etc. Volume 6, the final publication, is particularly rich in its gathering of many leading practitioners of pure abstraction, such as Charles Biederman, Cesar Domela, Anthony Hill, Michael Kidner, Francois Morellet and George… Read More
