First edition. 2 vols 8vo, compllete with supplement bound at end vol. 1, wood-engraved illustrations, contemporary calf gilt extra, covers with broad gilt borders, spines in 6 compartments, red morocco label to second, numbering roundel to third, others richly gilt, raised bands, all edges gilt, light fade to spine, a very attractive set. A finely bound set of Yarrell's classic work on the fish of Great Britain. Yarrell (1784 – 1856) was a noted English zoologist and one of the original members of the Zoological Society. Yarrell took over his father's bookshop and newsagent but spent his spare time becoming a proficient shooter, angler and collector of specimens. He joined the Royal Institution in 1817, and having published his first zoological work, On the Occurrence of some Rare British Birds, was elected a fellow of the Linnean Society of London in 1825.

Second edition of birds, first edition of fishes, together two works in five volumes (3 + 2) 8vo, wood-engraved illustrations throughout, matching (birds green, fishes blue-green) morocco gilt extra, covers with gilt borders, spines in six compartments, gilt lettered direct in second and third, others richly gilt within panels, raised bands, all edges gilt, a fine set. A finely bound set of Yarrell's classic works on the birds and fish of Great Britain. Yarrell (1784 – 1856) was a noted English zoologist and one of the original members of the Zoological Society.
