Presentation by the editor on the ffep "To Patrick Philip, Esq. / With Compliments, / John Hosie / Jan 14, 1932". Hosie was Provincial Librarian and Archivist. This book was issued after the death of the author. The Canadian Encyclopedia says, "The Overlanders of 1862 were a group of some 150 settlers who travelled from Fort Garry (now Winnipeg, Manitoba) to the interior of British Columbia, following the Cariboo Gold Rush. They were led by Thomas McMicking of Stamford Township, Welland County, Canada West [Ontario]." All copies of this book that I have seen have had their hinges reinforced by the bookbinder with binding tape. Text block is untrimmed as issued. Not unattractive and professionally done, but this is original and not a repair job. Moderately soiled. Vg. Signed copies scarce.

The rare book in this essay is the 1587 copy of New Mexico, by Fray Juan Gonzalez de Mendoza. Some toning to pages, else fine.

Good. 1st printing thus. 4to pictorial wraps. 55pp. Illustrated with superb architectural - type drawings of the Bain Company's products & a few photographs making wheels, axles, etc. Index. Price listed printed for each product. We grade this copy good even though the two staples of the binding have pulled away from the paper wrappers - neatly so without any tearing - and so the text block is free of the covers. Back cover has soil/stain. OCLC identifies a single copy of a similar, but not same, catalogue which is housed in the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto. That OCLC listing somehow connects the Bain Co. with the Massey-Harris Co. Dare we call our copy genuinely rare? We think so.
