William Childs Westmoreland (March 26, 1914 – July 18, 2005) was a United States Army general, most notably commander of United States forces during the Vietnam War from 1964 to 1968. He served as Chief of Staff of the United States Army from 1968 to 1972.
Westmoreland adopted a strategy of attrition against the Viet Cong and the North Vietnamese Army, attempting to drain them of manpower and supplies. He also made use of the United States' edge in artillery and air power, both in tactical confrontations and in relentless strategic bombing of North Vietnam. Book and dust jacket in near fine condition. Minor wrinkles in dust jacket at top and bottom of spine. With experience in analyzing foreign cultures from his time abroad, White took up the challenge of analyzing American culture with the books The Making of the President 1960 (1961), The Making of the President 1964 (1965), The Making of the President 1968 (1969), and The Making of the President 1972 (1973), all analyzing United States presidential elections. The first of these was both a bestseller and a critical success, winning the 1962 Pulitzer Prize for general nonfiction. Dust jacket in near fine condition.A fascinating and authoritative narrative history of the V-22 Osprey, revealing the inside story of the most controversial piece of military hardware ever developed for the U.S. Marine Corps. When the Marines decided to buy a helicopter-airplane hybrid "tiltrotor" called the V-22 Osprey, they saw it as their dream machine. The tiltrotor was the aviation equivalent of finding the Northwest Passage: an aircraft able to take off, land, and hover with the agility of a helicopter yet fly as fast and as far as an airplane. Many predicted it would reshape civilian aviation. The Marines saw it as key to their… Read More

Inscribed on second blank page: For Dan Moll best Garry WillsClean text. Price unclipped ($23.00). Protected by Brodart dust jacket cover. Book in new condition. Dust jacket in new condition. Certain Trumpets is a study of different leaders, sixteen of them all in different fields, eleven of them American, and of what made them effective leaders. Wills' rationale for such a diverse group, admittedly a bit arbitrary, is that leadership is always tempered by context, and he wanted "contexts" that were at least generally known to the reader.

Protected by Brodart dust jacket cover. Book and dust jacket in new condition. From Amazon...The book contradicts all the liberal claims about Ronald Reagan being an "amiable dunce" and other outright lies propounded by the Left. The President was completely aware of the political machinations going on around him, and yet was able to stay above the fray and let his select operatives fight it out with their American opponents to achieve victory. From Publishers Weekly...The thesis that President Ronald Reagan's administration, through its embrace of military confrontation and brinksmanship, hastened the breakup of the Soviet Union and decisively won the Cold War for the U.S. receives a fresh twist in Winik's intensely dramatic, personal narrative history. He credits four members of the Reagan team, all… Read More
