There is a double page 'schedule' form, noting by hand their names, The Dean and Chapter of Gloucester, and the Severn Navigation Company. Docket title on the rear page. Very good condition, light original fold lines. folio. 1st December 1845. ~ The South Wales Railway was proposed in 1844, encouraged by the Great Western Railway; it was to run from Standish, south-east of Gloucester, to South Wales. There would have been a bridge across the Severn at Fretherne. However it was argued by opponents that this would impede shipping intending to reach Bullo Pill, and to avoid the opposition the promoters of the South Wales Railway agreed to purchase the Forest of Dean Railway for £30,000 and improve it, providing a new branch line to the Severn at… Read More

A number of years were illustrated by Kate Greenaway, and although this is in a similar style this is not by her.

1943. Unbound. Very Good. WARTIME LOVE LETTERS, 1943-1945. A series of fourteen letters written between Miss Winnie Count, Westcliff Villas, Isleham, Ely, Cambridgeshire, and 'Casso' (M. Kassovitch, 30 Maitland House, Bishops Way, London. ~ The letters start in March 1943 when they are both at school, and continue through her time at Technical College, and his in the Merchant Navy. There are also 17 photographs, some in later life, and these with the letters being preserved together suggest that the couple married. The letters also include three drawings by Winnie of herself. "Enclosed is a drawing. I hope you like it, also I hope you don't mind my spelling your name with a C, but I like it best that way... write more next time."
