Washington DC: J. & G. S. Gideon, 1845. First Edition. Wraps. Good. First Edition. 24 pages. 8vo. 5 1/2 x 8 3/4 inches. Self wrappers (title page is page [1]). Previously bound, with stitch marks and glue remnants at the spine edge. Minor marginal loss to the base of the spine (one inch by 1/8 inch). Some overall browning to the paper. Staining to last page. Wraps. Published in 1845 by Vail after the successful test of a Congressionally approved experimental telegraph line from Baltimore to Washington DC in response to repeated requests for information. Separately paginated and with a new title page, the content of this pamphlet is also found on pages [9]-31 of "The American Electro Magnetic Telegraph : with the Reports of Congress, and a Description of All Telegraphs Known, employing electricity or galvanism." published in Philadelphia by Lea & Blanchard in the same year. Norman and Hooke's Origins of Cyberspace (#208), cites this pamphlet, noting that it was "probably" issued first. Both contain…

Description:
Amsterdam: C. G. Van Der Post, 1853. First Separate Edition. Wraps. Very Good. First Separate Edition. [1]-24 pages. Original brown wrappers printed in black. Uncut and unopened. 4to. 9 x 11.25 inches. Front wrapper darkened overall and at the edges. Text in Dutch. Loosely translated, the title is: "On the theory of magnetic lines of force of Faraday. Published by the Royal Academy of Sciences in Amsterdam" Wraps. No doubt in part a commentary on Faraday's "On the Physical Character of the Lines of Magnetic Force" published in the previous year. We find Coulomb, Ohm, and Ampere mentioned in the text as well, We've found little about Van Rees who was professor of mathematics and experimental philosophy at the University of Utrecht between 1831 and 1867. (Univ of Groningen website). An early reaction to news of Faraday's theory which clearly spread quickly. It is unclear if this was an offprint or originally issued in this format.

Description:
various: various, 1970. Three Ring Binder. Good. We offer a large archive of fireworks labels dating to the 1970s, including 175+ labels collected from various manufacturers and countries, mostly India and China, but with a few from Japan and even America. The archive is contained in two binders labeled "FIREWORKS LABELS ALBUM NO. 3" (containing 82 labels mostly of Indian origin), and "FIREWORKS LABELS ALBUM NO 4." (99 labels, mostly of Chinese/Macau origin with a few from Japan and America). This archive was collected in the 1970s (presumably by someone in the fireworks business), and placed in old photograph albums with the "magnetic glue" format which has transferred to the backs of many of the labels. In some cases lines are visible on the front of the labels. We've left the labels in the albums as is, partly because there are some penciled notes on some pages indicating a date or (in album 4) "PGII CONV" presumably for the Pyrotechnics Guide annual conventions. They are easily removable, but…

Red speckled page edges. Boards slightly bowed outward. Otherwise an excellent copy. Boards. Collects 40 papers published by Harvard scientists in peer reviewed journals during the year. This volume contains seven papers by P. W. Bridgman, including some of his high pressure work from Proc. Am Acad., Physical Review, and American Mathematical Society. The papers appear to be offprints. Given the different paper stocks the papers were either separate offprints bound and trimmed to volume size at Harvard University Press or reprinted onto larger paper stock with the addition of the introductory material. Individual wrappers, if any,…

Cleveland, Ohio: The Arthur Westbrook Company, 1900. Later printing. Later printing. [2], ii, [5]-201 pages. 5 x 7 inches. Decorated wrappers. Wear to extremities, paper browned. Given the fragility of the binding, a remarkable survival. One of many reprints of this work done during the late 19th/early 20th century. This specific edition is not called out by Taves and Michaluk in their long list of reprints, although Westbrook is noted as one of many reprints issued during the 1900 period. This particular edition is also not found in OCLC/Worldcat. A nice addition for the completest or scholarly collection.

Description:
Coldbrook Springs, Massachusetts: F. T. Viles, 1880. Near Fine. 8 x 17 1/2 inches. An advertising assemblage related to the Holcomb Speaking Telephone, washed and laid down on archival tissue, in the form of a broadside. The top and bottom portions of the assemblage are lighter in appearance, the center portion shows evidence of foxing before being washed. There is also evidence near the right edge as if the assemblage was in a frame at some point (perhaps for use in the Agent F. T. Viles' office?). J.R. Holcomb & Co. of Mallet Creek, Ohio patented an acoustic speaking telephone on July 9th, 1878. We find Holcomb advertisements in the Boston Weekly Globe (Boston, Massachusetts) during the same period when Bell Telephone and several other companies had employed agents to sell on their behalf. Holcomb issued a series of four page brochures for sales use (one such in OCLC #35360545). We've seen them dated 1879, 1880, and 1881 based on "testimonial" content. They have several distinctive and prominent…
