With (31) b&w photographs of Eastern European Jews in the 1930s. Vishniac was hired by the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee to photograph Jewish life throughout Eastern Europe, before this epoch of Jewish existence with its intense religious quality ended (in the crematories of Nazi Germany).  Vishniac wrote: "these pictures were made without letting the subjects know of the presence of a camera. They represent real life completely unposed. And so today they have become documents of a lost epoch of a lost people." Dust jacket has a small chip at the top, lightly mottled on the rear.  Overall very nice and presents very well..

The title comes from Mises's description of the reality of central planning and socialism, whether of the national variety (Nazism) or the international variety (communism). Rather than creating an orderly society, attempts at central planning have precisely the opposite effect. By short-circuiting the price mechanism and forcing people into economic lives contrary to their own chosing, central planning destroys the capital base and creates economic randomness that eventually ends by killing prosperity. A nice copy of a scarce title. In good condition with some marginalia on some pages between 18-39. .

Photographic Image. Very Good. Hardcover. signed. c1978. This photo album belonged to Commander William Allen Morgan, Commander of VXE-6 "Operation Deep Freeze". The front of the album is marked 'Commanding Officer VXE-6'. There are approx 55 photos [ 5x7 - 11x14 inches], together with newspaper clippings of VXE-6's deployment to Antarctica, and its rescue mission of downed Russian pilots. One photo labeled Operation Deep Freeze is a composite photo of all the men in the Post. Also a phograph inscribed to Commander Morgan signed by W. Graham Clayton Jr, Secretary of the Navy December 1978. There are 16 large photos measuring 14" x 11" loose in the back showing planes and helicopters, penguins, etc. .
