Wood engraved border and frontispiece by Ricketts, who was aided in the cutting of it by Charles Shannon. 53 leaves. 20 x 26.4 cms. 4to., originally in white buckram this copy has been very elegantly and expertly bound in full vellum with leather thongs and immaculate gilt titling on the upper cover, top edge gilt, others uncut, in a black cloth solander box with black and gilt spine label. An extremely clean and handsome copy.||The editor of the volume is named at ‘Charles Sturt’ which was in fact a pseudonym adopted by Ricketts. Printed in Vale type on heavy paper with a watermark of engraving tools and wreaths. Pp.30. Tal 4to, original linen backed blue paper covered boards with printed paper label on upper cover, largely unopened. Slight darkening to spine and bumping to corners, rubbing to edges of the boards, some browning and spotting to first and last few leaves, particularly to endpapers and edges. ||One of Ricketts’s most powerful books, the woodcuts being among his best illustrations.
