Signed and inscribed – To Felix, with a dry pen, John. The author has also marked a line through the text on the front flap and written "not true." This was Updike's first novel.

This is the first hardback published by McMillan in a printing of 1000 copies. A mystery by Upfield that predates the appearance of his famous, half-breed detective Napoleon Bonaparte. This copy has been signed by publisher Dennis McMillan on the title page.
