The pamphlet describes the endeavor as follows: During the session of the General Convention in New York, October, 1874, a few clergymen and laymen associated together to form the Historical Club, for the purpose of putting in print, by photolithographic process, important documents associated with the early history of the American Church. This is the first "catalogue" of the results of these efforts, and is essentially a list of the most important private documents for the American Protestant Episcopal Church, prepared by those who were in a position to know, and consists of some 56 rare and unique items, including private correspondence with Bishops White and Seabury, Charles and John Wesley and other luminaries. Includes loose two leaf catalogue of Tracts on Ritual by the author. Bound in green and maroon cloth with gilt portrait of Elizabeth to front board and gilt title and author to spine. Slight wear to head and tail of spine. An interesting Victorian approach to the Anglican BCP using a principle of historical interpretation.

Saddlestitched pamphlet. Bound in original cream colored wraps. Covers very slightly soiled. Rear cover chipped at edges. Slight vertical crease. Brooks was an influential proponent of the Liturgical Movement, the influence of which may be seen in Trinity Church, Philadelphia, which was constructed while he was rector. He is commemorated on January 23 on the Episcopal Kalendar. A scarce copy of this interesting contemporary argument to the contrary by the rector of Church of the Incarnation, Washington D.C.
