The Archaeolemurinae is made up of Archaeolumur majori, A. edwardsi, and Hadropithecus stenognathus. These three species of Malagasy fossil lemurs converge on the body plan of large terrestrial Old-World monkeys. Archaeolumur appears to have been a browser similar to the common baboon, Papio while Hadropithecus represents a highly specialized grazer reminiscent of the gelada baboon, Theropithecus.
