Barcelona: Poligrafa, 1975. 16 poems by Shuzo Takiguchi illustrated with 12 hors-texte original color lithographs by Antoni Tapies. 9 of the lithographs are single-page (44 x 32 cm) and 3 are double-page (44 x 64 cm). From a total edition of 425 copies, this is ONE OF ONLY 125 COPIES PRINTED ON "PAPEL DE ESTRAZA", a thick laid paper with a wonderful rough texture. SIGNED BY TAPIES. Text includes the poems in the original Japanese, and in Catalan, English, and French translation. Folio. Barcelona: Banco Anglo Sud Americano, 1929. THE UNIQUE COPY of this gift book created for banker Alfredo Taylor upon his retirement from the Barcelona branch of the Banco Anglo Sud Americano. Comprises an initial blank, title-page PRINTED IN GOLD, 63 leaves of signatures (three signatures to a leaf), and three final blanks. The signatures (those of Taylor's colleagues) are of great interest from the point of view of graphic design: they are very dashing and calligraphic in the Spanish style, with characteristic flourishes. Extremely fine wove paper. Beautifully bound in full morocco by MIQUEL RIUS (signed), covers and turn-ins ruled in gilt, Taylor's initials in gilt on fron cover, all edges gilt. FINE AND BRIGHT, with no defects. UNIQUE.

New York: Greenwich Gallery, 1957. A scarce exhibition catalogue devoted to fifty living American artists (many of who were Jewish, and many of whom were originally from Europe), almost all of whom were born between 1880 and 1910. There are two pages for each artist: on the first page is a small photograph and a biography, and on the second is a full-page reproduction of a painting or sculpture. 4to. Original wraps. Wraps lightly worn. Internally clean.

Paris, 1830. During the July Monarchy (1830) Lafayette--one of the greatest heroes of the American Revolution--was given command of the Gardes Nationales du Royaume on August 16, 1830. While he performed admirably, Louis-Philippe began to doubt whether he was a wise choice and, while congratulating him on a job well done, forced him out on December 26 of that year (four days after this letter was written). This letter--surely delivered by hand, and not sent through the post--orders an unnamed general to take commande of the National Guard troops on the right bank of the Seine (the general is not named for good reason, in case the letter had fallen into the wrong hands.) 25 x 20 cm, with blank verso and blank conjugate leaf. A little creasing and some tiny marginal closed tears, but overall in ver good condition. AN EXCELLENT LETTER BY A KEY FIGURE IN AMERICAN AND FRENCH HISTORY.
