Description:
London: N.p. [BBC] 1953. 35 mimeographed pp., secured by split pin to top left. Occasional revisions throughout, front page a little marked, near fine. First edition. Episode 9: transmitted 27 December 1953. NO RECORDING OF THIS EPISODE SURVIVES. Terry-Thomas' first radio 'lead' was in To Town With Terry, which he co-wrote with Talbot 'Carry On..' Rothwell. The show was transmitted in 1948 but, although popular, Terry-Thomas was unhappy with it, and it was shelved after a single series. It took five years for this follow-up to appear. The show's regular co-stars were Joan Sims and Leslie Mitchell, and each show featured special guests. This episode featured Donald Houston and Albert and Les Ward. This copy of the script has 'STANLEY' written in blue pencil across the front page. The show's Musical Director was Stanley Black, a fixture of 1950s radio who, among much else, wrote the theme tune for The Goon Show. Extremely scarce.

The pamphlet comprises a printing in both English and German of Thomas' poem The Bright Field, from the 1975 collection Laboratories Of The Spirit; an abstract illustration by Kevin Perryman (who also provides the German translation of the poem); and music for flute solo by Wolfgang Niemeyer to accompany this and other poems by Thomas. An eight-page version of this pamphlet was published in 1986 in an edition of 50 copies, signed by the poet. Both versions are scarce; this seems scarcer.

N.p. [London]: N.p. [BBC], 1965. 22 mimeographed pp., secured with pin to top left. Name of Douglas Smith inked by production staff to top right of title page. Some age-toning and light bumping, otherwise a near fine copy. First edition. PROGRAMME ANNOUNCER DOUGLAS SMITH'S COPY, WITH HIS NAME TO TITLE PAGE. The radio show Round The Horne ran between 1965 and 1968. The brainchild of Barry Took and Marty Feldman, the pair wrote the first three series together, Feldman leaving before the show's fourth and final outing in 1968. Week after week, razor-sharp writing combined with peerless characterisations to produce one of British radio comedy's finest, funniest, and filthiest flowerings. It was customary for shows of the period to have an announcer introducing proceedings but in Round The Horne Douglas Smith was given jokes and roles in sketches on top of his traditional duties, integrating him firmly into the fabric of the show. This script bears Smith's name, written in ink by… Read More
