Talbert was an accomplished Pop and assemblage artist closely aligned with Wallace Berman and the LA avant-garde. He died of alcohol poisoning at age 41. Barely perceptible touch of toning to edges, very near fine.

n.p.: Privately published, 1973.. The exhibition was a retrospective of Talbert's erotically-themed work, a recurring motif for which he was well known. The poster features a striking b&w illustration showing an image of a prostitute on a playing card surrounded by money, dice, and an eight ball. Talbert was an accomplished Pop and assemblage artist closely associated with Wallace Berman and his circle. He died of alcohol poisoning at age 41. Trivial touch of occasional edge wear, else fine ( 25" x 19").

Paris: Contrejour, 1992.. Oblong 4to. Hardbound in dust jacket. First edition. Barely perceptible touch of yellowing to page edges, minute tap to two corners, else fine and bright (touch of yellowing to base of dj spine). A lovely copy.

NY: Privately published, 1985.. Tavel was an Obie winning playwright probably best known for his work with Jack Smith and Andy Warhol. He worked on Smith's Flaming Creatures and wrote the screenplays for Warhol's Chelsea Girls, Vinyl, and Poor Little Rich Girl (among others), in addition to acting in several of Warhol's films. Tavel also founded the Theatre of the Ridiculous known for it's surreal stage settings and props, cross-dressing actors, and emphasis on material that was intentionally shocking and provocative. My Foetus Lived on Amboy Street is about an embryo struggling to come to birth in Brooklyn, and the bizarre and striking poster imagery features the Brooklyn Bridge, a dangling spider, and Tarzan's son swinging on a vine. Clean pin holes to the corners, minute tear, no paper loss, solid very good plus to near fine (16" x 22"). An exceedingly scarce poster with a quirky and sensational graphic design.

Universal City: Seven Seventy Publishers, 1966.. Counterculture exploitation magazine with an emphasis on the Hell's Angels featuring a "Hell's Angels Special Inside Report" with photos and a glossary of Hell's Angels slang. Also includes articles such as "Escapism with So-called Wonder Drugs" (LSD), "Sunset Strip Gone Crazy," plus the requisite amount of photos of naked or scantilly-clad hippie women, various "kooks," and other members of the "Wild Breed!" Although labeled Vol. 1, No. 1 we strongly suspect this was a one-shot publication, and an early example of the hippie exploitation genre that became popular a couple of years later. Price sticker to corner of front cover, else very near fine.

Chicago: The National Insider, 1967.. Tabloid, folded as issued. Features the bold headline: "Tragic LSD Sex Orgy Raped by 18 Men!" Detailed outrageous story inside features another huge headline: "LSD Doped Girl Raped By 18 Boys!" Paper toned but still supple, very good. Sensational exploitation styled after The National Inquirer--- published at the end of the "Summer of Love."

[Linden, NY: The Ampeg Company, ca. late '60s early '70s].. 4to. Pamphlet. First edition. An extensive dictionary of hip slang terms from Ampeg, the maker of amplifiers and musical equipment as a promotional item---not available for sale and there was no official distribution. Illustrated with charming small antique graphics throughout. Due to the larger page size it contains many more terms than Cab Calloway's famous Hepster's Dictionary or the beatnik slang dictionaries of the '50s. Some creasing, scuffing, and wear, very good minus. In the realm of hipster slang dictionaries this is an extreme rarity, during 36 years we've never seen or heard of this before, and no copies on OCLC.

[Chicago: M.M. Cole Publishing, 1928].. Pamphlet. First edition. Illustrated throughout with photographs and drawings. Some splits to spine but still solid, couple of corner creases to cover, else very good. An early book on blues harmonica before it became wildly popular in the folk and rock movements of the '50s and '60s.

North Hollywood: American Art Agency, 1964.. A "men's magazine" featuring the cover story: "Greenwich Village Party Time" about the Beatniks in Greenwich Village. Includes several pages of staged and wonderfully ridiculous photos of a Beatnik party with shade-wearing, guitar-strumming, wine-drinking, beatniks with candles in wine bottles and modern art on the walls and topless Beatnik women cavorting. Very near fine.

Detroit: Student Lane, no date [ca. 1940's].. The writing pad measures ca. 4" x 2.5" and has "Student Lane The New Style Center for Young Men Bond Clothes" printed on the cover. A very scarce jive slang item from the swing period, and an unexpected place to find such a glossary. Near fine.

Baldwin, NY: Jeflin Pub, 1960.. Exploitation mag featuring the cover story: "Will the Beatniks Ruin America?" Several pages of photos of Beatniks in Greenwich Village (including one of the Miss Beatnik contest winner), London, and San Francisco. Rubber stamp to front cover, some wear to spine with 1-inch tear to top and bottom, tear to a couple of pages, still presentable.

n.p.: n.p., n.d. [ca. 1968].. Outrageous hippie exploitation magazine. Generic cover photo of a naked woman posing for the camera deceptively creates the impression that this is a standard men's magazine, however it is largely devoted to reprinting Psychedelic Hippie No. 1, probably the best hippie exploitation mag ever. Includes additional material not in Psychedelic Hippie including an article on the Monterey Pop Festival with coverage of The Mamas and Papas and Jimi Hendrix, as well as a piece about the hippie scene in Oakland's Tilden Park. Lots of photos (many in color) of naked frolicking hippies, with sections devoted to "Getting Stoned on Bananas," "Riots on Sunset Strip," "Beach Hippieville," "Living in the Streets," "Sex Disease," and more. Unbelievable photos with supplementary texts---nice layout. Minor rubbing to covers, else near fine.
