Contemporary full calf, spine with 5 raised bands, in compartments gilt, gilt lettered on red morocco label (gilt is faintly; top and bottom of spine with some slight loss of leather; sorners slightly rubbed; joints a little worn), red edges. ¶ Very rare. Second enlarged French edition (first is 1689) of Talbor's "The English Remedy" (1682). Talbor, an untrained "quack" was instrumental to popularize the use of cinchona in Europe. He made a fortune by curing hundreds of royal and aristocatic persons, including Louisa Maria, Queen of Spain, Prince de Condé, Duc de Roche-Foucauld, Charles II, Louis XIV, etc. An attractive copy, despite the somewhat worn binding, inner bright an clean.

Lugduni (Lyon),: Joannem Certe,, 1686. [xii], 413, [xxxiii] pp. Small 8vo (9,3 x 15,3 cm.). Contemporary brown calf (top and bottom of spine slightly damaged; upper edge of the front side slightly rubbed; corners a bit bumped), Spine in compartments gilt decorated and lettered; speckled edges. Seme wood-engraved head and tail pieces. With a contemporary engraved bookplate of Ludovicus Feuilherade M.D. ¶ Apparently the ONLY copy known of this 1686 Johannem Certe edition. The official "Editio secunda" was published by Certe in 1687. Presumably the 1686 edition was printed at the occasion of Tencke's inauguration at Montpellier in 1686, but the printer overlooked to print the King's approbation within this 1686 edition. Certe has to cancel the edition and released a little bid later (1687) the correct edition with the approbation. The 1686 editions: Montpellier Peronnel & Venice de Rhinetta, are pirate editions. No copy in the BNF or NLM, nor in the World Cat.

Philadelphia,: A.H. Thomas,, 1950.. viii, 1272, 124 (reagents), 61 (index) pp. Large 4to (21,5 x 27 cm). Original red/orange buckram (partly slightly faded and/or discolored, light wear along extremities). With a very large number of illustrations in the text. A huge and profusely illustrated catalogue. The Thomas company is in business since 1900.

Amstelædami,: Ex Typographia Gerardi Tielenburg (1734-1776), & Soc.,, MDCCLXXIV (1774).. 61, [iii] pp. 8vo (12,6 x 20 cm.). Recently bound in half, dark brown, grained morocco. With a few woodcut vignettes in the text, and illustrated with a most charming engraved frontispiece and title-engraving. ¶ Very uncommon, only a few copies in the WorldCat. A curious, satirical, and sometimes serious, piece of hexametric neo-latin poetry. In his "Prooemium" the author i.a. mentions Aldrovandus, Jonston, Linnaeus, Brisson, Buffon. A wonderful "darwinistic poem avant la lettre" seen throught the eyes of a Jesuit priest. This work is also of interest for the history of 18th century Catholic Amsterdam, more specific the priest of the Krijtberg. - C'est un assez curieux et rare poème (neo)-Latin sur les singes.

Original printed publisher's boards (partly slightly worn and scattered staining), uncut. ¶ In 1828 Thomson became the first professor of materia medica and therapeutics at London University (now University College London), but was already known as the author of 'the London Dispensatory' (first ed. 1815, 11th ed. 1852). We could not find an English edition of this text, so probably the translator E. Pelouze has made a compilation of Thomson's various texts. Very rare, especially in the original printed boards.-- (Bibliothèque Industrielle, ou Collection de Traités séparés des Sciences et des Arts et Métiers).

With 23 plates. ¶ A collection of recipes offered by Marie Thumas, the legendary Belgium manufacturers of canned food. The cover illustrations and plates are in attractive sepia helio-engravings by J. Verschueren of Antwerpen. A very nice copy.

Krahmer (accumulateurs mignons). - (Stamp on the first page).

Von der Cholera - Sanguine - Phlegmate - Cholerico - Melancholicis, etc. --(As usual with German books from this period, pages light browned throughout the volume; though a attractive copy in a charming contemporary binding).
