A few marginal corners are clipped. Occasional minor tear neatly sealed. Bound in modern half brown calf with marbled boards. Juan Saguens, a scholar in the Order of Minims produced his "Atomismus demonstratus" in defense of Cartesian atomism. The book, written in dialogue form, was designed to counter the anti-Cartesian arguments of Francisco Palanco (1657-1720), a scholar also of the Order of Minims and a professor of philosophy and theology at the University of Salamanca. Palanco attacked Cartesian philosophy in the fourth tome of his work "Cursus Philosophicus" (Madrid, 1714). (See Randles, The Unmaking of the Medieval Christian Cosmos 1500-1760, p. 206).

This edition of Sallustius was probably meant for Latin students. The entire book is inter-leaved with blanks, presumably for note taking. Several blanks contain notes in a miniscule old hand. The 1839 volume is re-backed preserving the original publisher's blue paper boards with a decorative title printed on the front cover. The volumes for 1840 and 1844 are bound in early blue paper boards; the 1840 volume is re-backed and the 1844 volume is carefully strengthened along the hinges. The volume for 1841 is bound in brown cloth. Both the 1841 and 1844 volumes contain the remnants of original paper spine labels and also paper institutional shelf tickets. This second edition was printed by Elzevier. Pages are generally clean. A bibliographical note (listing several references) and an old ownership inscription - "ex bibliotheca Kripperdorfia" - are written in old hand on the front blank. The Monarchia solipsorum is bitter satire written against the Jesuits which, in its day, caused quite a sensation. The author describes a secret society of "Solipsen" (those who wish to govern entirely) understood to mean the Jesuits. The supposed laws, secret instructions and clandestine operations of the organization are discussed. The author's name is given as Lucius Cornelius Europaeus which is a pseudonym. The top 23 mm of the jacket spine is also chipped, obscuring the lettering. The author tries to reveal the myths and religious backgrounds to folk-dances, nursery-rhymes, and children’s games.
