Description:
Manifesto of the avant-garde artist Alexander Vasilyevich Shevchenko (1883-1948).Rare and important Russian Art essay. A. Shevchenko was a highly influential painter and art theorist whose book coined the term "Neo-Primitism." He defined it as a new form of art that blended Cézanne, Cubism and Futurism with traditional Russian folk art such as the icon and the lubok or popular picture sheet. He was a Russian and Soviet painter and graphic artist, art theorist, avant-garde artist. Shevchenko was educated (1899-1909) at the Stroganov School (especially highlighting this school for professionalism), at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (on the course of K. A. Korovin) and in Paris — at the Academy of R. Julian and in the workshop of E. Carrier. In the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture he became close to M. F. Larionov and, inspired by his theories (luchism — partly, neo-primitivism — seriously), he participated in the exhibitions "Donkey's Tail",…

Description:
The first edition of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" in an abridged translation by Marina and Nickolai Chukovsky with illustrations by Vladimir Bekhteev. The book was edited by the famous Russian and Soviet writer Korney Chukovsky (1882-1969). In the preface to the novel including a biography of Harriet Beecher Stowe he compared her work to Russian writers and their critical attitude to Russian serfdom similar to American slavery.
This translation turned out to be considerably more complete than any other version of 1920s. The second edition was published in 1950, and Chukovsky significantly changed his preface removing most of the author's biography and comparison with Russian literature.
Illustrations by Vladimir Bekhteev (1878-1971), an avant-garde painter and graphic artist, made the edition even more remarkable. They send the reader to the art of the avant-garde group "The Blue Rider", the part of which Bekhteev was. The first edition of this translation is rare.
