Description:
Kentfield, California. Newton. K. Gregg. 1971. Quarto (12 x 9 1/2). Limited Edition. One of 350 copies published. 153 pp. plus 15 plates of fish; six of which are beautifully hand colored. The plates were printed by The Meriden Gravure Company. The Coris Frerei, water colored primarily in shades of purple and green, is especially attractive. Introduction by George Sprague Myers. Foreword by Albert E. Gunther. This is a large, beautiful book, reprinting the rare first edition of 100 copies published in 1867. The Introduction by the late Professor Myers is excellent, placing the book in historical context with other famous ichthyological works published between the years 1820 and 1870. The book is bound in blue cloth with gilt titles on the spine. A fine book still in the original shrink wrap and shipping box. .

Description:
London. Chapman and Hall. 1854. First Edition. 8vo. (7 ½ x 5 ½). viii, [1], 155 pp. Illustrated frontispiece showing 'This Noble River'. With seven black and white plates in the text. Text vignettes. Includes an interesting discussion on rods, lines, and the making of artificial flies; although the methods described for making flies are somewhat arcane, they are still relevant to those folks with an interest in mid-nineteenth century fly dressing techniques. The book is bound in the original dark blue blind-stamped cloth with gilt titles on the spine and a gilt mayfly on the front cover. Professionally rebacked many years ago, two bookplates, one angling, the other belonging to Lionel Cresswell, the nineteenth century publisher of the Stemmata Alstoniana. Very good. .

Description:
Philadelphia, Pennslyvania. Methodist Episcopal Book and Publishing House. 1875. First Edition. Octavo (6 1/2 x 5). [2], 3-278 pp. Illustrated frontispiece. Text illustrations. The Rev. traveled by ship from New York to California via the isthmus at Panama and landed in San Francisco. He meandered through the state, hunts and fishes with gusto, a bit skeptical of the Western outdoor experience, but nonetheless thoroughly enjoyed the Sierra mountains. There’s very little God-talk and that’s a plus for the reader. The book is bound in its original brown decorated cloth with gilt titles on the spine and front cover. With the bookplate Wilbur G. Downs, a world-famous naturalist an medical researcher. There’s some edge wear to the binding and a bit of foxing in the text, otherwise very good..
