No dustwrapper, minor bumping to spine ends and corners of green boards, foxing to page edges and to outer pages, top half-inch cut away from f/ep (probably had a previous owner's name on), binding starting to come loose at chapter 1 and at pages 195-206, but otherwise a not too bad copy of this hard-cover book. Possibly a library binding, only 'Maya' and 'Oliphant' in gilt on spine, but no stamps or labels anywhere. The author was a Philip Laurence Kington-Blair Oliphant, he was killed in France in April 1918 when serving as a lieutenant-colonel with the Royal Irish Rifles. He wrote several novels under a slightly shortened version of his name, this one is set in India.
