No dustwrapper, minor bumping to spine ends and corners of green boards, foxing to page edges and to outer pages, top half-inch cut away from f/ep (probably had a previous owner's name on), binding starting to come loose at chapter 1 and at pages 195-206, but otherwise a not too bad copy of this hard-cover book. Possibly a library binding, only 'Maya' and 'Oliphant' in gilt on spine, but no stamps or labels anywhere. The author was a Philip Laurence Kington-Blair Oliphant, he was killed in France in April 1918 when serving as a lieutenant-colonel with the Royal Irish Rifles. He wrote several novels under a slightly shortened version of his name, this one is set in India. Not many copies of his novels around anywhere online, and no other copies of this title (as of August 2023). 313pp.. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall.

A historical novel set in seventeenth century Scotland at the time of the Covenanters, and largely dealing with the (real life) family of the Humes of Polwarth. A sequel to the author's "Mine is the Kingdom", but much harder to find. Her real name was Jane Rees (nee Evans) and she founded the John Llewellyn Rhys literary prize in memory of her husband who was killed in WW2. 541pp.. Hard Cover.
